Summary

The website content is a reflective poem and personal essay by Carolina Smith, exploring the theme of new beginnings through the metaphor of the Tarot card 'Star,' and detailing her journey of self-discovery and migration to Australia.

Abstract

Carolina Smith uses the 'Star' tarot card as a metaphor to illustrate the cyclical nature of endings and beginnings in her poem, drawing parallels with her own life experiences. The poem describes a transformative journey from chaos and destruction, symbolized by the 'Tower' card, to renewed hope and faith, as represented by the 'Star.' Smith recounts her personal struggle with belonging after returning to her home country, leading to a spiritual awakening and the realization that her path lay abroad. Through surrendering to her circumstances, trusting her intuition, and embracing synchronicities, she found the courage to migrate to Australia, where she has since thrived, started a family, and discovered a new sense of identity and purpose.

New Beginnings, an Endless Cycle of Death and Rebirth

A poem and reflection

Star’s tower structure is hit by the lightning of revelation, leaving behind the debris of chaos and transformation.

Revelations leading to breakthroughs knocks off Star’s golden crown. She doesn’t know what awaits her but surrenders as she falls down.

Star, now a Naked Woman, stripped from beliefs’ fortress, lays her soul bare, staying true to her quest, and not letting herself falter.

She keeps walking, trusting even in times of devastation there’s room for divine intervention.

It takes an ending to bring new beginnings and a storm to cleanse the field. Only letting go and releasing opens space for the new to come in.

So, with a foot on Earth, and another in the water, Star Naked Woman, lets common sense and intuition interplay bring rebirth and growth forward.

Albeit external opposing forces, an inner voice whispered in her ear, ‘surrender to the flow, don’t struggle, the end of the old is near, and a new dawn will soon appear.’

Star rose with hope and faith. A sense of being truly blessed, of a new loving and ascending phase, filled her with inner depth and understanding about herself.

And despite rain and thunder, Star kept walking towards her long-awaited fate, finally merging with her future self.

This poem is my response to Liberty Forrest, Author’s writing prompt about ‘Memorable fresh starts — whether difficult or fun. How did you cope with them? What made it easier — or harder — to get through them?

I used the ‘Star’ tarot card in this poem to metaphorically convey I’ve always experienced new beginnings as a cycle of death and rebirth.

In Tarot, the ‘Star’ follows the ‘Tower’ card, meaning a period of renewed hope and faith arrives after havoc and destruction. The Star symbolizes the self’s metamorphosis to overcome any limiting beliefs that have previously prevented her from becoming the best version of herself.

With the transformation of the self, the Star finds a new sense of resilience, inner power, and meaning in life.

Similarly, after three years of study and working in the US, I returned home only to discover I felt like I didn’t belong anymore in my home country.

A dark night of the soul and the search for meaning ensued.

What I found helpful during that time was to surrender to my circumstances while trusting my intuition, doing the inner work, and giving myself permission to explore other avenues to find clarity and make heart-aligned decisions.

One day, I came across a book called ‘Sacred Contracts’ by Caroline Myss that changed my life forever. By identifying the energies or archetypes that guided my higher purpose, I unraveled that my spiritual journey was to continue abroad.

However, such a plan appeared unachievable at the time, and although I knew in my heart that’s what I desired, I let it go. Thankfully, it seems that letting go of my need to control how anything would happen did the trick…

Little did I know that a year later, the Universe would bring to my city a team of migrant consultants offering advisory services on migrating to Australia. As soon as I learned about it, I seized the opportunity as it was crystal clear that it was what my soul desired and needed.

So, I trusted everything would unfold precisely as needed, and so it was…

The Universe conspired to see my dream come true, and a sacred golden thread of synchronicities unraveled to ensure I would have no problem settling in Australia.

Australia has been home for the last sixteen years, giving me a sense of belonging and life experiences that have completely transformed my identity and perspective of life in ways I could not have foreseen. I’ve started a family here and have never looked back…The rest is history.
