Summary

Elin Melaas shares her current and future writing workspaces, her loyal canine companion, and the serene outdoor spot where she writes, while also expressing excitement about a new garden room under construction.

Abstract

Elin Melaas, a writer, describes her current makeshift writing corner in the living room, complete with her essential coffee and a notebook that often travels with her, even during housework. She introduces her constant companion, a devoted five-year-old dog who is often by her side during writing sessions and photoshoots. Melaas also cherishes an outdoor writing spot in her garden, where she is surrounded by nature's beauty. Looking ahead, she eagerly anticipates the completion of a garden room that will serve as her dedicated writing space, equipped with a desk, bookshelf, couch, table, wood stove, and sauna. This personal essay is a response to Ellie Jacobson's "Where Do You Write?" prompt for the "Flint & Steel" publication.

My current workspace

In lack of a better place, I’m writing in this corner in our living room for the time being. I always have my coffee nearby. I also have a notebook, which is missing from this picture. I got an idea when I was doing housework, and the notebook was left in the laundry.

My best friend

This cute and loyal companion is always with me when I write. She is a five-year-old girl who always looks after her family. She is also present when I take pictures, both in front of and behind the camera. As in THIS story, for example.

My outdoor writing spot

On warm and beautiful days, I sit here, in this place in our garden. Here I enjoy the birds singing, the sun shining and the life being wonderful.

My future writing place

We are building a garden room! In this room, I will have my own space, with a desk and a bookshelf. We also plan to have a couch, table, wood stove, and sauna. I can’t wait!
