My Stats Say I’m On An Upswing
In the last four days, my Views and Reads are developing exceptionally well. But it remains to be seen whether this is an outlier or a trend.
Having earned over $100 on Medium in March and April, I was not sure if I could repeat this success in the first half of May.
In the first half of the month, from 01 to May 15th, I had earned 42.50 dollars. When I extrapolated the daily average of $2.83 to 31 days, I came up with estimated earnings of $87.73 for May.
This frustrated me a little because, since the beginning of March, I have been writing daily on Medium. In mid-March, I started writing for the new publication Illumination, and my statistics jumped up significantly.
I attribute my first month of over $100 directly to Illumination.
When I was able to repeat the excellent result in April, I was sure that I would break the $100 mark in May as well.
But then, on May 16th, I sat in front of my Excel spreadsheet and was at a loss. I had worked just as hard as in the previous two months, but my earnings were falling. On one day, May 7th, I only earned 87 cents. That was an absolute low point. How could that be?
But the very next day, the medium gods decided to give me new hope again. The day I had looked back so depressed at the first half of the month turned out to be the most auspicious day I had ever had on Medium.
I had earned $6.63 in a single day. Of course, this is ridiculously low compared to the earnings of those who can finance their lives with their Medium income, but for me, it was a significant milestone.
Fast forward to today. Today is May 24th. So I only know the results of eight days of the second half of the month. But in those eight days, I have already earned $47.70.
That is $5.20 more than in the whole first half of the month.
If I extrapolate the daily average to the month at the moment, I come to an expected result of 121.57 dollars. So May could be my most successful month on Medium.

But I am cautious and do not expect this result too strongly. First of all, I am not a data scientist and can be entirely wrong when it comes to identifying something as a trend. Secondly, I am aware that Medium is unpredictable.
The last four days in particular, at $7.23, $6.36, $6.14 and $8.58, were the strongest four days I’ve ever had in a row, but that doesn’t say anything about the next few days.
So my stats seem to say I’m on an upswing, but time has to show if this is really the case.
Nevertheless, this development motivates me enormously. It really seems that hard work and continuity can pay off on this platform.
At the end of the month, I will take a closer look here. Then you can find out whether I was happy too early or whether the trend is really a good one.
