My Progress on Medium Thus Far…
And the momentum I’ve built that has resulted in astonishing rewards.
I’ve been writing on Medium since April 2021. That’s the first time I ever hit the publish button, and wow, how things have changed.
For starters, my writing has dramatically improved.
It has become more concise and straight to the point, and it just flows better.
I do have to admit I use Grammarly Pro and cannot take all the credit for the improvements.
But regardless, the difference between my first few blogs and now is astonishing.
In addition, a few months ago, in September of 2022, I made the commitment I would be more consistent on Medium and post blogs regularly.
At the very minimum, 10 blogs per month.
Doing this has helped me gain momentum, and the results I have seen the past few weeks have me elated because it feels like I’m just starting to gain traction, and I’m very hopeful I will have a bright future on this platform.
In these past four months of consistent work, not only have I seen an improvement in my writing style and delivery but also in the content of my blogs.
I started writing about my journey through personal development, and I still do.
But I have expanded into other areas of my life. My profile here on Medium is truly a reflection of myself, my journey, and my growth.
I’ve expanded my blogs to writing about my relationships and business or entrepreneurship.
Documenting my journey through words is what’s at the core of my inspiration, and I’m so glad I’m garnering the support of so many of you.
Many writers on this platform share their journey, but I wish to do it in a much more detailed, raw, and personal way.
Share my wins, big and small, but also my losses, big and small, in the various areas of my life I mentioned.
Give you, perhaps, an ounce of knowledge or insight that may help you learn and make better decisions in any area of your life.
That’s my ultimate goal!
But alas, I know people love to see numbers, so let’s get to the point.
Since becoming more consistent with publishing blogs (September of 2022), my follower count has increased from 109 to 196 (as of February 7, 2023).
That’s almost 100 new followers in a little under 5 months!
I’ve also seen an increase in earnings of 966%. I made less than a dollar in September, and I’m closer to making $10 this month!
I know this is pennies compared to what other writers make, but this is progress.
One of the major keys to getting this growth is writing in publications.
For a long time after joining Medium, I was too scared or fearful, and I didn’t look into becoming a writer for a publication.
If you’re new on Medium, I urge you to find publications accepting writers and request to become a contributor asap!
It will change the game.
The wonderful thing about publications isn't just that they offer an established audience to show your wiring to, they also have very clear guidelines and standards.
Joining a publication will force you to upgrade and improve your writing.
This is a great thing because you will either sink or swim. You will either take the feedback from the editors and improve your writing or, well, not.
So thank you to not just Illumination but all the other publications whose efforts are geared toward helping writers get their blogs and articles circulated throughout Medium.
You’re truly the backbone of this platform.
If you’re thinking that your efforts here on Medium haven’t paid off, wait, don’t give up yet.
I’ve been writing here for almost two years, and I’m finally starting to see the traction I’ve always wanted. But it took making a commitment to posting regularly and not giving myself an out.
If you want to make money here on Medium, you must take it seriously.
How serious is up to you, but as long as you’re consistent, work on your craft, and deliver value through your blogs, you will find an audience.
Wishing everyone on Medium the best, especially new and aspiring writers.
This is just the beginning!
