My Plan to Write More in 2024
A Public Declaration, Will It Work?
I have been writing for longer years than I can count. As a kid, I used to write small things for myself, but since I did not usually have a lot of extra blank paper lying around, I often turned to keeping my thoughts in my imagination. Oh, those stories that lived up there in my 5–10-year-old brain, what would they tell me today if I could remember them?
Then, as I got older, I found acting. If you can’t write it down, act it out. Well, I only got to do that in my head (well, pretty much, though friends at the time may beg to differ). I got to do some acting on stage, so that was storytelling, right?
Then, I found writing in the high school newspaper in my later high school years. Those were interesting years, and I often forget about them.
Sure, I only wrote “fluff” pieces for the paper, and a continuing column I had was called “Things To Do,” if I remember correctly.
My “Things To Do” column was all about the concerts, football games, high school auditorium events, and such that we high schoolers could make plans to do. Some had already happened, but what the heck? We put those in there, too; it made for good reading.
It was a fun piece to write since I was already either going to those movies or concerts or dreaming of going, that is if I had friends who would have wanted to go with me. I didn’t, well, not all things, but money and a lack of “cool” factor kept us from doing some things.
The monthly article was well received in my high school halls, even being praised by a regional high school paper review.
No, it did not win the top prize at the competition, but it did get an “honorable mention, “ which was as good as getting the trophy, certificate, or whatever they were giving out. Well, at least to me, it was.
Anyway, I digress. So, we are in 2024, into the first week, and I am making a public declaration, even if I am the only one who reads it. Ready?
I plan to write more in 2024. Rhymes, doesn’t it? I plan to write more in 2024, write from my heart what comes to mind, and hopefully, some of it will entertain, even if it’s just me when I write it.

You and I writing more in 2024 will be a great way to spend some hours just getting it out of our brains and onto the page, the screen, or you know what I mean.
Writing more will be fun to read what we have all written. And it will be far better, speaking for myself, than I did in 2023, which I can only improve upon since I can’t change that.
