May Interview Questions

*All answers are ad hoc and could be sus.

[1] What did you like to do most when you were 10? They say that this hobby is likely what brings you the most joy in life — is this something you still do?

Play baseball or out on the bike with friends, but baseball won.

I don’t think that joy thing is absolutely correct, hope not. It’s still a soft spot in my heart and always will be, but no, it is not something I do nowadays. The skills have waned, and the body doesn’t pull up like it used to at age 10.

Besides, baseball is not a common sport here in Australia. And no, cricket is NOT the same.

[2] What genres do you write? Why do you choose to write with these types of structures? What’s attractive about them?

Fiction is my reading love and a writing fav, but here on Medium my genres have so far been Travel, Humour and more essay type pieces.

The other ‘Why’ and ‘What’? Travel seemed to have ended up as a natural introduction for me and my writing here on Medium (thanks World Traveler’s Blog) and I found a wonderful home and some success there. When that well felt to be running dry — thanks pandemic — I branched out into other genres and publications.

I’ve even enjoyed dabbling in poetry, though if I’m not rhyming then I feel lost.

[3] What’s your all-time favourite childhood TV show?

Emergency’, hands down.

I Love Lucy’ — in reruns. I’m not quite that old.

M.A.S.H.’, ‘Cheers’, and ‘Family Ties’ probably round out the list.

Ask me tomorrow and you might get a completely different answer.

[4] Pick one sense and tell us about the most relaxing thing you do in relation to that sense.

‘Sight’ is my answer because I enjoy seeing all the colour and beauty of life. And I can do all of that in relaxing silence.

Watching the ocean waves roll in, the colours change and bounce off fields and leaves in the sun; the architecture, movement and bustle of a city. Those are some of my relaxing, rejuvenation moments.

[5] Who is someone you want to connect more with this month? How might you go about doing this?

Fellow readers and writers I haven’t met yet and I’ll do that by writing, reading and interacting here on Medium and branch out more into other social media and writer arenas.

The other someone is our new grandson.

This or that?

Bold your choice!

  • olive oil or butter Olive oil has its use, but c’mon — butter.
  • e-books or physical books I read both, but a physical book is the best.
  • libraries or bookstores Bookstores, because there’s a special feel and smell and we must keep them alive. Not libraries because, well, there’s a smell. That and the last time I was in a library, it was more day-care center than library.
  • noodles or rice I can go either way on this one, but rice wins more often than noodles.
  • messy desk or organized desk I bolded ‘or’ because my desk is somewhere in the in-between and it’s a matter of opinion, frankly.
