Summary

The author reflects on immortality, expressing a fear of death yet remaining skeptical about embracing vampirism as a means to eternal life, preferring instead a life without aging or bloodsucking.

Abstract

The article titled "My New Diet Plan: Vampirism" delves into the author's thoughts on the concept of immortality. The author admits to a fear of death but notes that this fear has diminished with age, having been instilled during a young age without the comfort of beliefs in an afterlife or reincarnation. The piece humorously considers the romanticized notion of vampirism, dismissing it as a desirable form of immortality despite the potential for it to be an extreme diet plan. Instead, the author envisions an ideal immortal life as one that includes youthful longevity, financial stability, and a residence in a rustic part of the UK, without the need for sustenance from blood. The author also thanks the readers for engaging with the prompt provided by Ruby Noir from the "Read or Die" publication and invites further discussion on the topic.

My New Diet Plan: Vampirism

If you’re going to go immortal, go all in…

If it were possible to be immortal and live forever — would you want to? What circumstances would you want to be factored into your immortal life? Do you fear death? Be detailed.

If given the opportunity to be immortal my first inclination would be to say yes. I absolutely fear death. Doesn’t everyone to some degree? Isn’t that why we put it off as long as we can? We live healthy and utilize modern medicine, not only to make our life on this planet better, but also to sustain it as long as possible.

I fear death much less as I get older. I feel like for most people it goes in the opposite direction, but I was a scared little kid. I was taught about death at a very early age, too young I think. And I wasn’t given an umbrella to focus all of that fear under. I wasn’t taught about an afterlife or reincarnation, or anything like that.

I was taught in the second grade that God is dog spelled backwards. And that was it.

Granted, this was coming from a mentally ill man, whose parents raised him in a religion that didn’t believe in science or medical attention of any kind. So, I’ve forgiven him for that.

But I’m not here to talk about the existence of God. I’m here to discuss vampirism, or whatever the circumstances would be surrounding my immortality. Well I guess I’ll cut that one off at the knees. I have no secret urge to be a vampire. I don’t think that it’s romantic. Although I suppose having to survive on only blood could be an excellent diet plan.

I think that with some start up cash, a flat in the UK somewhere rustic and the guarantee that I wouldn’t age, I’d be in. Just no bloodsucking.
