PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE

My Life Between Sunrises and Calm Waters

Week 58 of the photographic documentary of my daily life

I can feel my body is getting tired. High season and intense physical work are taking a toll on me. But I do know my limits and decided to take it a bit slower this week. To rest my body I stayed home most of the week and only went to work from Friday until Sunday.

Which surely doesn’t mean I just sat on the couch staring at the wall. If I’d do that for only a day my husband would get worried. I must be sick if I just sit there and do nothing. I’m not meant for being bored.

Thursday morning I went for a lovely paddle on the river while my husband was at school (he’s taking German lessons). I drove upriver for a change, to see some different scenery.

Following the stream upriver I came to a smaller one flowing into the main river. I decided to follow it up for a bit and enjoyed the lovely paddle between trees and a dense riverbank.

On my return to the big river I was amazed by the view I got of the city of Miltenberg. The new cartwheel is standing out in front of the old castle and church. The bridge crossing the river is also a pretty landmark.

Friday, I still cleaned the house and did some laundry before I drove off to work. This week I only had a two-hour drive to the airfield I would be skydiving over the weekend.

Friday afternoon I got to do one jump out of this beautifully painted plane.

Saturday after the normal jumps which were finished before sunset, night jumps were organized. A bunch of lit-up adrenaline junkies stepped into the plane and jumped from 20.000ft in the dark.

For the rest of us standing on the ground, it looked like shooting stars were falling from the sky. Just that some of those stars were shining in green or red. And one shooting star was constantly changing colors. Surely interesting to watch.

Sunday morning I woke up with some sore muscles and the eyes still half-closed when I saw the sun rising above the still in fog covered airfield. Vapor trails and/or cirrostratus clouds were finishing the perfect picture.

Monday. Back home again. Stiff as hell.

But when I eventually managed to get up I got to smile seeing my lovely yellow flowers shining on the terrace. Seeing them in such glory I knew my landlord had watered them while I was gone.

It’s been a sunny day but we spend most of the time indoors trying to recover from the hard work on the weekend. Towards the afternoon some cotton-wool clouds moved in. The sun was blocked and it looked like a perfect afternoon. I decided to set the table for dinner on our terrace.

With such a view — who wouldn’t want to sit and eat there?

A few hours later it’s raining again. The morning is quiet but not too cold. I opened all the windows to let the sound of the rain come into the flat. But to embrace the magic of the moment I decide to enjoy my breakfast on the terrace.

While it is dripping all around me I hear no other sounds than the ones from the rain.
