Welcome back. We are quickly heading to the end of March. We’ve had some nice days since the first day of Spring on the 20th. However, we also have had some colder days which reminds us that it is still March. Overnight we received a coating of snow. April will be here on Saturday which doesn’t seem possible. April should bring some warmer temperatures for sure. I have been busy planting onion and tomato seeds. So far the onions have sprouted and I have been putting plants in the greenhouse:

Except for the coating of snow we got overnight, our snow is almost gone. There are still a few remnants of the 4-foot drifts we had in the yard. Just 2 weeks ago we had about 2 feet of snow on the ground. As soon as the yard dries up a little more, I will be out raking, and cleaning up the yard from the long winter. I will also be getting my lawnmowers ready for the season. As soon as the snow is gone and we get warm temperatures, the lawn will come to life quickly. Most years I start mowing by the end of April. Yikes!

Last Sunday (March 19th) I took advantage of the ample snowpack and cold temperatures to go cross-country skiing for what I thought would be the last time this season. Turns out it most likely will be the last ski, unless I head North to the Adirondacks, where the snow will last a little while longer. Or if we get an April snowstorm.

On March 15th, a few days after we had our big snowstorm, I attempted skiing which turned out to be a disappointing outing. The silver lining was that the brilliant sunshine and fresh snow created a picturesque Winter Wonderland:

The Final Ski Outing Did Not Disappoint

For this outing, I decided to head to one of my favorite trails, near Bowman Lake State Park. The snowmobile trail on the back side of the lake is a great place to go skiing. The trail gradually ascends for about 1.3 miles. Not too steep for the most part. It offers great views of Bowman Lake and the McDonough NY State Forest. This time I didn’t meet any snowmobiles as I usually do. I appreciate the snowmobile trails as they are groomed and packed nicely which leads to great skiing.

The gradual uphill trail provides a good workout and wonderful views. The best part is the return trip is a long downhill glide. A reward per see for the work of climbing the hill. Once I reached Preston Road, I continued on Bowman road for another mile. This trail also had some gentle hills. By the time I had returned to Bowman Lake, I had skied around 4 miles. A great outing.

As my readers know, I love skiing. It is body friendly to me and it makes Winter enjoyable. There is nothing like gliding along on the snow on a crisp cold day.
