My June Thank You Note to Readers

The Statistics and What They Mean

It has taken me a bit longer to do the analysis for last month. I’ve been busy reading and writing. I know you have, too. I love to write, but I’m an engineer by training and a numbers guy by nature.

In June, according to my tabulation, for stories that earned more than $0.05, I had

13007 Claps

361 Occurrences of clapping

Thank You!!! I am blown away that you thought spending that much time reading and interacting with my writing worthwhile. For someone who is new to writing and very new to this Medium game, I am truly humbled.

I like to dive a little deeper than the surface analysis that Medium provides. In June, I wrote and published 25 stories and responded to 175 stories that you and others on Medium wrote.

When I took my deep dive, I found that I had 150 unique readers (fans) in June. Most fans read only one story, but 72 of you read more than one. In fact, 16 of you read and clapped for five or more stories, and four of you read and clapped for 10 or more stories. One reader, bless you, read and clapped for 20 of my stories. So, to all of you, I say: Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!

I’m not going to get rich and retire anytime soon, but at least, thanks to all of you wonderful readers and writers, I’m paying for my Medium subscription and a couple of cups of good coffee. (Since I buy my coffee beans at Sam’s Club, I can almost cover a month’s coffee with the profits!) Who’d have thought? If you are ever in the area, stop buy for a cup and a little face-to-face. I’ll be glad to share my earnings with you!

I’ve slacked off a bit in July and done more reading than writing. When I read, I highlight, clap and respond, so it takes a while; I know that when you do that for me, you are spending some of those valuable, irreplaceable 86,400 seconds of your day honoring me. I don’t take such a gift lightly. I trust that you find my writing enlightening and fun to read. I work to make it so.

I do try to reciprocate. Of course, there being 150 of you and only one of me, that gets a little hard to do, but I try. Know this, I do read and respond to all responses. And I try to do that in a timely manner.

Another way I reciprocate is by featuring your work. So, for those 16 of you who did me the honor reading and clapping for 5 or more of my stories during June, I’ve featured your feature story below. And, all 150 story readers are listed at the end of this article. Again, thanks for your time and diligence. I hope you got as much joy from reading as I did from writing and reading your responses.

As I prepared this list, I prayed a blessing upon each one of you named and cited above. I pray all will go well with you and that you will achieve your goals this day and in the coming days, weeks and years. I know some of you read more than the number of stories indicated. As I mentioned above, I did cut the list off at stories earning $0.05. Those earning less did not get counted.

I encourage you to visit these members and read, highlight, write responses and otherwise encourage them. If you find a writer that you particluarly like, write a testimonial featuring that writer and their work. Promote their work on your social media sites, recommend them to friends. It will create good karma for you and them. This is how to encourage other writers, and Lord knows we all need encouragement. Together we can make the Medium experience bigger and better for everyone.

Happy Reading, Writing, Encouraging and Connecting!
