My First Free E-Book on Gumroad and Why You Should Do It Too
Today I launched my first E-book on Gumroad and after 1 hour there were already sales! Super easy.
Wait a second, because it might not be that easy, and here is why.
But before we proceed with the reasons, I don’t know why, maybe the 70cm of snow that just felt overnight, but I am in a great and giving mood! I’ll be giving 10 copies of my E-book for FREE! Instructions at the end.
So, anyway. Why write an E-book?
Since I was a child I’ve been a reader. I loved reading Harry Potter, The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman, and youth literature. I grew up with the ambition of writing one by myself.
About 4 months ago I said to myself: “Alright, stop wishing, start doing!”
So I started writing, but it’s not only about that!
1- Finding your topic
First of all, you want to ask yourself what you want to write about and how. Do you want to write a novel, a guide, a self-improvement book, poetry, or theatre?
Do you want to write about boats, business, recipes, traveling, self-improvement, meditation? There are infinite possible topics and you probably want to choose one that you’re interested in and that you want to share!
2-Finding your audience
Who are you writing for? And don’t say “myself” if you want to make money from it. If you don’t, go for it!
But if you do, you want to know who is your audience:
- what are their interests
- what are their pains you want to resolve
- what are their reading habits
- were and how they spend their free time
- level of education
and so on.
The better you know them, the better you’ll be able to provide a good product!
3- Test some bits
Why would you want to write a whole book, spend countless hours working on it, publish it, and then realize that nobody wants it or is interested in it?
You don’t want this. And the best way to avoid it is to test some chunks of it, some ideas.
Do you want to write a chapter about fear and self-improvement? Well, why don’t you try writing an article about your ideas and see how people react? Do they like your article, are there any comments, is there engagement?
This way you’ll see what works and what doesn’t.
At the same time, you’ll be building up your audience and baiting them into your full creation!
4- Creation
It’s now time to write! You’d be surprised to realize how many bookwriters have made a book from just the articles they’ve written! It’s quite easy, once you have enough articles, you select the one that works the best, trim it here, adjust it there, and there you go, you have your first book!
Easy, right?
5- Branding
Now comes the step of creating an attention-grabbing and eye-catching cover and back cover!
You also want to choose the right font, the right spacing, well, all those little details that can make the difference!
6-Self publishing
Now you have your final work, and it’s time to present it to the world! What an exciting moment! All your hard work is now available to everyone! But where should you publish it? There are many options.
I’ve used two of them:
- Gumroad: I’ve used Gumroad for the E-book version of the book. Why? Well it’s very easy to set up, it’s free, and it’s trendy! Yes, it’s trendy, and you want to be where buyers are, right?
- Amazon: it’s a must. I’ve used it for the paper version. Why? It’s so easy to set up! And it’s international!
7-Get out there and share
It isn’t going to sell by itself.
You must go out there, reach your audience, and your potential readers, and tell them that your product is now available! Tell the world what you’ve created! Bring it out!
So easy, right? Well, now it’s your turn!
Easy said, maybe less easily done, but if you want to write a book, don’t think twice, you won’t regret it!
It is a very satisfying process, and once you have your creation between your hands you’ll feel it was the right decision to make!
