My Earnings After Writing 22 Articles in 28 Days
Lessons learned after 4 months of being on medium
Writing is hard work. One has to find the time, the idea, and the drive to come up with the article. Last month, I tried to beat my January earnings but I didn’t make it. If you also tried to beat to reach your target and failed, don’t worry. Just analyze what happened and go forward. There is no past anymore. I pledge to learn from any of my setbacks.
It wasn’t that I wrote fewer articles, but I wrote a lot more because I had recovered somewhat from my Dad’s passing. Thanks to medium, my somewhat rapid healing was due to my writing about my Dad and reminiscing about the lessons I learned from him.
Crossing Guard Stories Proved Popular
What was one of the surprises for me was that I learned people are fascinated by my crossing guard stories. I checked and my first story landed on the 2nd page of Google. I thought that was so amazing that I decided to do a 3-part series about my part-time role as a school crossing guard. My titles made a difference, especially when I used “One Day In The Life Of A Crossing Guard.”
I attribute part of my earnings to my articles about followers. I know some publications are feeling that getting these type of articles are a bit tiresome to them and are reluctant to post similar articles, but to others, these articles are darn helpful! In fact, all you have to do is check the tags, and tags with followers as a subject is popular and people actively search for them. If I was new, I would, too!
But the truth is that new medium writers do want that kind of story. Articles I wrote about getting followers a few months ago are still being read. There is a huge demand every day for people who want to get into the medium partner program. So whenever possible, if I feel that if I have some new tips to help new medium writers, I will write about it.
I wrote a total of 22 articles in February. I anticipated that my articles about Tiktok would be popular because it is a great app and fun to use, but the reads are a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, I am still a big Tiktok fan. Somehow, Instagram posting is not very fun, for some odd reason.
To summarize, my analysis of my articles show many readers chose articles about:
- crossing guard stories
- how to get followers
- saving money
- sites that pay freelancers
- weight loss tips
My lowest read was about another part-time — a noon-hour supervisor job. I attribute the low reads due to my choice of the title and people are just not interested in this type of job.
My article about making money with Google maps that I wrote in December made me money in February. That article went viral in December to the tune of 17.3K views and 6.8k reads !— I am truly amazed.
My advice to you is to analyze your articles on a monthly basis. Do a deep dive the same way you would when you look at your high credit card statements or other bills. Ask yourself this: What stories do people want to read? What stories do you like to write about?
My earnings for February were $29.42 for 22 articles. My earnings for January were $50.62 for just 17 articles.
Although somewhat disappointing, I am still grateful and hope to continue writing and learning about the process of being a successful medium writer. The key thing is to stay on track and stay motivated. Thanks to publications for their support of medium writers!
