My best stories on Medium.
Here’s a selection of my best articles on Medium since May 2020.
In May this year (2020) I started to write on Medium. I did not know what to expect, but found a friendly and appealing canvas ready for conveying my ideas. My task as a writer is to write — and since I do so every day. Some days the ideas flow, on some days I am close to a writer’s blog. But I write.
Nowadays you are asked to show your accomplishments, right after you started something new. There is a lot of folks out there not appreciating that creativity takes time. They want to see results, even before you started.
So even if my endeavor on Medium started before just one month, it is time to share my best articles (by now) with you. Here we go …
1 No wonder, COVID-19 keeps any media busy, including Medium. So my first story on Medium -of course- was a Memo about COVID-19, what we knew by that time. The idea was to consolidate the most important messages in a single story, distinguishing the signals from the noise. Providing an outlook. Making people think. And finally set the scene for further articles.
2 Building on the above text, I elaborated on how COVID-19 made companies more agile. Facing lock-downs and the “New Normal”, companies had to aopt to that “market situation” in order to stay in business. Endeavors that sometimes would have undergone complex planning to then never being realized had to be established within very short time. The principles that companies applied during that time of crisis are encapsulated in some management approaches. I describe those so that managers can consider to incorporate them more systematically (and strategically) within their organizations in order to become more robust (“resilient”) and therefore turn challenges into chances more regularly. Credit goes to one of my business partners, who inspired me accordingly during a discussion.
3 After writing for a while on Medium, I felt that I somehow should introduce myself. I could have shared my bio. But just publishing my current resume in prose did not appear to be very compelling. As I writer, I wanted to produce something more creative. I then decided to sketch the path that led me to Medium. It’s not my full bio, but my readers get a glimpse of my background. And some practical hints (hopefully), if they flirt with the idea of starting a blog themselves.
Finally, I blog on Medium.
How I found my way to Medium, and what you can expect from me.

4 I liked the above idea to inspire people to blog. Therefore, I wrote a story about the art and the appeal of blogging. I think that blogging is an art. Like writing but nowadays on a digital canvas that provides a lot more means. For instance you can embed multimedial content. Having something to say can be one motivation, or even a burning desire to blog. But there are other motivations to write a blog. In my text I describe some motives and intents, aiming to make my readers reflect their approach to blogging. Being aware of one’s motives and intents is an important prerequisite for choosing a suitable blogspot. I share my personal experiences with some platforms and close with practical hints on how to start a blog. Hence, this text aims to empower people to start their blogs if they are up to, without walking through an encyclopedia.
5 Finally, I wrote a kind of analysis of the presence when it comes to modern recruiting. And the mourning over lacking talent. While brushing up my resume, guided by a highly experienced headhunter, I hardly believed my own eyes: During a webinar, I learned about what matters in a modern (machine-readable) resume. I learned about “ATS” (Applicant tracking systems). I found out about online recruiting procedures. And I read a lot of bulk emails that candidates receive, if they dare to bother a junior recruiter with uploading their resume. And I read the mourning about the lack of talent. I gave reasons why recruiting can’t continue like that — if it were really about recognizing and appreciating talent.
Dear Reader, I hope you appreciate my selection. All the above articles were published on Illumination, probably one of the most diverse and supportive publications here on Medium.
And there is definitely more to come. Please stay tuned.
