Finally, I blog on Medium.

How I found my way to Medium, and what you can expect from me.

Blogging always appeared appealing to me: First of all, I love to read and to write. Writing is a way to express myself and the Web is a great canvas, because it allows one to connect with like-minded folks from all around the globe. Later I discovered that blogging can be your ticket to the free world. You can work anytime, anywhere and find the resources that you need to realize your full potential. I will come to that later. First I want to share with you how I finally landed on Medium.

I would consider myself as an “Internet veteran” — actually I started on Compuserve and thus was among the first movers using email, newsgroups and then the Web (Netscape Navigator was the browser of choice those days and Dec’s Altavista the preferred search-engine).

My first Blogging Experience.

But while I was among the first movers with the Internet in general, I was quite a late bloomer with blogging: I started my first blog -that deserved that name- around 2010. It was a WordPress blog, hosted in my own Webspace — I got support from a WordPress Pro in setting it up and tuning it. It was an interesting experience, but I got overwhelmed by spammers that used my blog to promote anabolic steroids and other illegal substances. A complete redesign of my Website led to the extinction of that Blog — that was around 2013.

That time I was quite busy with eLearning projects, while being quite passive with personal web projects. Sounds odd, but it was like that. The passiveness comprised social webs, websites, bulletin boards and blogs. Studying Psychology, Finance and other subjects while traveling and getting married also kept me away from my web-based canvas.

Starting through later on.

In 2018 things started to change. I was quite busy with my MSc in Finance but found the time to already think ahead what to start after. Online Business was my first choice as it allows me to work anytime, anywhere which is very important for me. I remembered Neil Patel’s blog and during my web based research for ideas I came across his blog again. I was fascinated by the idea to become a full-time blogger. And I got even more fascinated when Neil published the numbers that he made with blogging. Neil’s blog was also quite helpful how to get started: What platforms to use, how to find a topic and more.

From there I picked Tumblr, Wordpress, Squarespace, blogger.com and Medium. I assigned an idea to each of those platforms and started off with tumblr. I still blog there using a pseudonym, so you will either find me there or not — in any case you won’t know that it’s me :-) Subsequently, I kicked-off projects on the other platforms — and finally here on Medium.

Medium is a great choice because it lets me focus on writing, not on setup routines, SEO and design templates. I find myself in a community of like-minded bloggers that sometimes inspire me. And last but not least, Medium is fair enough to pay its authors (if they are eligible for the partner program). All in all, Medium is my new digital canvas of choice.

So what to expect from me?

In my life always pursued the one ultimate goal: Personal freedom. To my mind, that is the ultimate ingredient to do something great. Finally, I achieved it but it takes some more work to keep it permanently. In my postings, I will share all my hints with you. This includes management techniques, productivity boosts, creativity techniques, self management and more. Articles will advise on effective networking, successful negotiations and from time to time also reflect current developments in our societies.

So the scope is broad, while the goal is clear. There is not quick fix to personal freedom, although some authors (that very often have not achieved personal freedom on their own) suggest that.

Take me at my word. And follow me here on Medium, right here, right now.
