My 7 Hour Work Week
I make more working 7 hours a week than I make working a 9–5

We spend most of our time on this earth trying to buy more time and for good reason.
Time is our most precious commodity and whilst I get angry at people sneering the 9–5 worker (I am still one myself). There are ways to create the life you want by working far less than you think.
Granted, there are plenty of ways to do this but I have found my way in Day Trading.
I’ve not only embraced but also excelled in, dedicating just 7 hours a week to it. The result? Earnings that surpass my full-time income working full-time in finance.
This is not just a testament to the potential of day trading but also a starting block for those looking to explore an alternative way of living.
Day Trading
I’ve been Day Trading for over 6 years. Yes, I have a finance qualification and have been working full-time in the finance sector for over 10 years, I am no stranger to the markets, yet the leap from knowledge to application, especially in day trading, required a strategic approach.
In the end, I invest no more than 7 hours a week in Day Trading and in the last 5 years have made (slightly) more than I have made in my full-time job.
Strategy
Success in day trading, especially on a time budget, hinges on a well-thought-out strategy. For me, this meant focusing on a few key components:
- Charts: Spending an hour to two hours each weekend reviewing the charts, trends, economic indicators, and potential news events that could impact the trading week ahead. This preparation is crucial and sets the tone for the rest of the week. If this isn’t done correctly, the rest of the week is doomed to fail.
- Trading Plan: Developing a clear trading plan with defined entry and exit points, risk management rules, and targets for each session. This plan is my non-negotiable, ensuring that I stay disciplined and avoid emotional trading.
- Technology Minimalist: Using trading platforms and tools that offer real-time data, analysis, and automated trading options. This technology not only enhances decision-making but also efficiency, allowing me to make the most of my limited trading hours. Trying to stick to as few as possible also helps, a great deal.
- Continuous Learning: Dedication to ongoing education through webinars, online courses, and financial news. Day Trading is ever-evolving, and staying ahead requires a commitment to learning. New strategies and ideas appear, all the time. You don’t need to learn them all but some of them may suit your style and circumstances.
Risk and Reward
Risk management is the key to my day trading success. With just 7 hours devoted to trading each week, there’s no room for reckless moments. Instead, I focus on preserving capital and steadily growing my accounts through calculated risks.
This involves setting a stop-loss, only trading with money I can afford to lose, and never chasing losses. The discipline this approach instills is invaluable, not just for trading but for financial management in general.
Psychology
Day trading is as much a psychology than it is as a financial one. The ability to remain calm under pressure, maintain discipline in the face of losses, and keeping greed in check is essential.
For me, mindfulness and meditation have been key tools in developing the mental resilience needed to navigate day trading effectively. These practices help me maintain a clear head, ensuring that my trading decisions are informed by logic rather than emotion.
The Impact on Lifestyle and Financial Freedom
The most transformative aspect of dedicating 7 hours a week to day trading has been the impact on my lifestyle and overall sense of financial freedom. Earning more from trading than my full-time job has not only provided a significant financial cushion but also opened up new possibilities for how I live and work. It has afforded me the flexibility to travel, pursue hobbies, and spend more time with my family.
Yes I still work a 9–5 but my setup is flexible. I can take time off when I need and I do this often.
The Path Forward
Looking ahead, my focus is on continuing to refine my trading strategy, exploring new markets, and sharing my journey with others interested in this path. Through content creation on platforms like YouTube, Medium, X, Instagram, and Pinterest, I enjoy sharing my day trading journey and like to show that with the right approach, it’s possible to achieve financial success on your own terms.
In Short
I work for an incredible organisation and get to travel to places I would never have a chance to otherwise.
This is why I still work a 9–5 when making more from day trading.
It’s all about planting the seeds for the future.
