Multiplayer’s Future in Call of Duty Sparks Worries Among Players
Opinions and worries surround Call of Duty fans as they discuss the future of multiplayer in upcoming titles.

So, in my previous chats, I’ve talked a lot about Call of Duty games. You can find the links to those chats at the end of this post, by the way. But today, I wanna dive into the current multiplayer experience of Call of Duty and share some thoughts on the worries people have about its future. Let’s get into it!
What does Call of Duty’s current multiplayer experience include?
The multiplayer experience in Call of Duty is packed with action, excitement, and lots of fun. There’s a lot to dive into. So let me break it down for you.
First of all, it has various game modes. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a fan of classic team deathmatch, objective-based modes, or fast-paced battles in Free-for-All. There will always be something for you. It also has unique modes like Gun Game and Kill Confirmed. It adds an extra twist to the gameplay.
Now, let’s talk about the maps. Call of Duty’s multiplayer features diverse and beautifully designed maps. Each map has its own layout, hiding spots, and strategic points. They keep you on your toes and make every match different.
Of course, weapons are important in the multiplayer experience. You’ll have lots of firearms at your disposal. They can be assault rifles, submachine guns, sniper rifles, shotguns, and explosives. You might rain chaos on your opponents with grenades, C4s, and other lethal equipment.
As you play and gain experience, you’ll level up and unlock new weapons, attachments, and perks. These will allow you to customize your loadout and customize it to your playstyle.
Regarding customization, the game offers a ton of cosmetic options. You can personalize your character’s appearance with different outfits, skins, emotes, and weapon camos.
Last but not least, multiplayer in Call of Duty is not just about the gameplay. You can team up with friends and form squads. You can also join a clan to compete against other groups. There are seasonal events, challenges, and rewards to keep you engaged.
What are the concerns about Call of Duty’s future?
Some Call of Duty fans are freaking out about what’s gonna happen to multiplayer in the next games, and lots of gamers are voicing their opinions. Tons of Call of Duty players aren’t thrilled with how multiplayer is right now, and some think it’s only gonna get worse in future games because they think the other game modes are stealing the show.
Remember when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 came out in 2022? Yeah, that was a blast with all its different game modes. But now the developers also dropped Call of Duty: Warzone 2, a free-to-play game for Battle Royale and Extraction shooter fans.
Since it launched, players have been begging the devs to pay more attention to regular multiplayer because they feel forgotten when all the new stuff goes into Call of Duty: Warzone 2. And now there are Reddit posts popping up left and right with worried Call of Duty players wondering what the future holds.
Just yesterday, this Reddit dude antmaster208 posted in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 subreddit sharing their thoughts about where regular multiplayer is heading in the next games.
They’re convinced that multiplayer in Call of Duty is gonna die off because the devs keep giving all the love to the other popular modes, and a lot of fans in the comments agree with them. Sure, we got a new map recently in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but that hasn’t changed anyone’s mind about the franchise’s future.
A bunch of folks on Reddit think that Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is getting way more attention than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. They believe the devs are focused on releasing paid content for Call of Duty: Warzone 2, like extra items and bundles for players to buy.
And some even think that Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s DMZ mode is stealing the spotlight from regular multiplayer, reducing it to a place where you just unlock camos. That totally sucks for long-time gamers who love the classic Call of Duty experience.
According to that Reddit post, some gamers actually prefer playing Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s DMZ over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. They say the extraction mode is in a good state and they can have fun without dealing with try-hard players or playing the same old modes they’ve been playing forever.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s DMZ mode keeps getting new stuff from the devs, and lots of players are having a blast with this free-to-play experience, kinda like Escape From Tarkov and Marauders.
Free-to-play games let players try new stuff and maybe buy some cool cosmetic items, and game developers know this. So it won’t be surprising if the next Call of Duty games head in that direction, trying to make more money and attract more players.
Final Words
Call of Duty fans are getting all worked up about what’s gonna happen to multiplayer in the next games.
They’re feeling like multiplayer is getting shoved to the side because of that Call of Duty: Warzone 2 thing.
Some peeps are worried that the devs are too busy focusing on paid content and that DMZ mode, leaving regular multiplayer feeling neglected.
It looks like the game industry is all about free-to-play games these days, and that could mean trouble for multiplayer.
Money talks, right? So, it’s uncertain what’s gonna happen to Call of Duty’s multiplayer in the future.
Fans are just hoping the devs listen to their concerns and do right by them in the next releases.
