A Reader Q&A
All Realities Are the Dream of the One Source/God/Absolute
[Updated Jan 25, 2022] Our physical reality is a dream waiting for us to awaken — but so is every other dimension of reality.

Hello Alan Lew! Have you heard the comment “This world is like a lucid dream”? If so, may I know if you have information about this? For example: If superior dimensions are like a lucid dream too? Thank you!
Dreams & Realities
A “dream” is a reality created within one’s mind. From the perspective of The Absolute/Source/Brahman, all manifest reality is a dream created in its mind. All dimensions are dreams in the mind of Source/God.
Many New Age spiritualists like to use this dream analogy to describe how our reality is an illusion. Sometimes the illusion only refers to our ego-self, as in “we are more than our body, mind, and ego”. Other times, everything in existence is an illusion.
Radical nondualism, for example, insists that “we” do not exist. Reading and thinking are apparently happening now, but there is no “you” doing it, and you/we cannot know even if they are really happening. Similarly, we can never know if Source, other people, Planet Earth, and other dimensions exist.
There is an appearance of these things in the dream illusion, but the knower (us) is also only an appearance and not “real”. What is real is that nothing is being everything all at the same time. And conversely, everything is nothing. (This is a form of nihilism)
For us 3rd Dimensional (3D) humans, dreams are what we sometimes remember experiencing when we sleep. Spiritually, what we remember of our nightly dreams are 4th Dimension (4D) experiences.
Some say we experience and learn in many higher spiritual dimensions in our dreams. But we only remember the 4D experience because it is the most like our 3D experience. Our 3D brain cannot decipher messages and experiences in dimensions higher than 4D. But our Astral/Energy/Emotional Body can remember those journeys.
From our 3D human perspective, seeing our normal waking experience as a dream (similar to our nightly 4D experience) is one way to look at our reality. It is valid from the perspective of Source/God because everything is a dream. And a lot of spiritual people like to look at their life that way. That is because it gives them a way to understand reality, which can sometimes seem random and chaotic, and at other times miraculous.
Another way to look at reality is to see our dreams as being “as real” as our 3D experience. Rather than calling our waking reality a dream, we call our dream an alternate reality. This is another view Source/God perspective, and is one that Seth/Jane Roberts often suggested.
For more on dreams, with several Seth quotes, see:
Lucid Dreams & “Waking Up”
You mentioned “lucid dreams”, which are usually defined as when a person becomes “aware” that they are dreaming. In a lucid dream, people “wake up” inside their 4D dream and then act on that awareness (by flying and instantly creating things, for example).
When it was only a normal dream, the experience was full of limitations on what we can and cannot do. Those limitations are based on our beliefs. But when we awaken in the dream, the boundary of limitations changes. We suddenly create our reality. (Although technology never seems to work for us the way it does in our 3D waking state.)
Some of us also come to know our waking 3D experience as a dream (or an illusion, or a Matrix — they are the same idea). Nowadays, we call that “awakening” to the truth of existence. That is an initial step on the path to enlightenment and seems to be increasingly common (based on self-reporting in Facebook groups).
(Note that many get “lucid dreams” confused with “vivid dreams”. Experiences in a vivid dream are very clear and intense, but there is no “waking up” within the dream. The vivid dreamer never knows that they are dreaming.)

“Awakening” in Different Dimensions
Other spiritual dimensions of reality are also part of the dream of Source/God. So beings in those dimensions are also in a dream.
Many humans believe that beings in higher dimensions are more aware of “the dream of reality” than we are. We think they are more aware of the dream that we are living, but less aware of their own dream. This has 3 implications:
- Every being or entity is intuitively aware of the characteristics and limitations of the life-dream of beings in dimensions lower than the one they are in. We can easily imagine those more limited lower dimensions as a dream-like existence compared to what reality is really like from our perspective.
- Every being or entity is experiencing an “awakening” in the dimension they are in. There are 2 ways to do that. The first is awakening to realize that our dimensional reality is more dream-like than we had realized. The second is awakening to identify with our higher dimensional self and its broader perspective on existence.
- Every being or entity is unaware of the dream-like nature of dimensions higher than the one they are in. We see those higher dimensions as being true, all-knowing, wise, and heaven-like. That is what it feels like when we first enter a higher dimension. But because it is all the dream of God/Source, we have only left one dream to enter another.
For example, a 5D being — could know the characteristics of the dream state of 3D and 4D, — would learn to awaken in 5D, and — would be less aware of how 6D and 7D realities are also dreams of Source.
That is because you need to be “unaware” of the dream before you can awaken and become “aware” of it. Unaware and Aware are a duality. We require both to move forward.

Each Dimension Has Its Work To Do
There are no “superior dimensions”. Each dimension has a different perspective on the same reality. Each has challenges and work to do.
We move up through dimensions by mastering the lessons and knowledge of the dimension we are currently in. Some say we are ready to move up when we hold unconditional love for all aspects of our current dimension.
We can also describe this as having fully awakened in our current dimension, as the Buddha did when they called him “The Awakened One”.

We then enter the “dream” of the next dimension. It is like starting all over. We incarnate as an innocent, open, and unknowing being in the next dimension. We intuitively remember what we learned in our previous dimension, but the rules are all new in this new dimension.
Each additional dimension has offers a different perspective from the previous dimension. This gives us a new and different set of responsibilities, knowledge to master, and work to do. As we master the next dimension, which can take many incarnations, we “awaken” to its truths. We are then ready to ascend once again.
In this way, all dimensions have equal value and purpose from the perspective of Source/God. They are all contributing to the creation of the universe and Source learning about itself.
Matias De Stefano’s spiritual dimensions model is one of the better descriptions of the approach outlined above:
