Mirror
A Poem
Reflection, vision, — what is my mission?
I am here to make poetry accessible, I am here to poet in public places,
I am here to show my daughter that it is possible, to make something from nothing
to make art from air — look, it is happening!
Not just hair and makeup not just nails and glitter, not shallow empty vanity in the mirror,
but to be able to look and to see without flinching, without fear a poet looking back,
knowing that this thing is not a made up word or a word that has to be backed with degrees or credentials,
knowing that this thing is more real more rewarding more life sustaining, than food, than drink, than water, than wine —
mirror mirror on the wall, we teach our children what is possible,
by what we claim for ourselves.
