Miniature Daffodils Think it’s Spring! Unexpected Reaction to New Bed …
A dog’s bed, not a human’s bed
These miniature daffodils have suddenly burst into flower in a pot outside the front of the house. I hope they’re not too premature because I think it’s going to get colder again.
It’s lovely to have them, though, greeting us as we leave the house.

I’ve been seeing lots of pictures of doggos luxuriating in their ‘cuddle beds’ on social media. Apparently they really help to calm dogs if they’re frightened by fireworks or thunder.
I’ve been resisting getting PupperJack one — he has beds absolutely everywhere and STILL insists on lying in mine …
But I finally gave in and got him one, partly because I thought he might love it so much he would not get into my bed so often and I would be relieved of some of the dirt and gravel he drags in.

It certainly looked like it was going to be a big success. He got very excited about it before it was even out of its box, also while in its vacuum-packed bag, and he was overjoyed when it was finally placed on the floor and let out into the wild.
And then he went completely apeshit! He was digging in it, dragging it around, panting like a wild thing, dragging it around some more. He got it halfway down the stairs, brought it back up again, did some more crazy digging, bits of it flew off everywhere — it’s quite a hairy thing. He was panting so much he could hardly draw breath.
I had started out thinking he was chuffed with it and ended up being really worried. He looked so frantic. I had to take it off him. He tried to hang on, but I hung on longer and I’m bigger than him.
I have locked the offending item in another room and PupperJack has calmed right down again.
So weird.

It is actually called a ‘calming dog bed’, but PupperJack was like a creature possessed!
I did a thorough search online but could find no other reports of dogs behaving as if they’d just discovered a stash of cocaine.
As you can see now (above) — he’s fine. Weird. But fine.

I took him around the block for a bit of fresh air — we noticed the holly seems to get more Christmassy as time goes on, not less.

4th February is ‘National Homemade Soup Day’. Of course, it’s absolutely the right time of year for soup!
I tend to use a ‘soup maker’ thing rather than pots — it’s so easy — just chuck everything in, set it, wait for it to do it, then it’s unbelievably easy to wash and, every single time I find myself saying — why don’t they make ALL cooking receptacles this easy to clean?
Even easier, though, and something I’m more prone to — is opening a carton … there are some good ones around. My current favourite is lentil and spinach dhal — yum!

8th February is National Kite-Flying Day — above is a pupper learning to fly the kitty-kite. I suggested kite-flying to PupperJack, but all he wants is his ‘calming bed’ back. Eek!
Dennett started the Photo-a-Day Challenge to help combat the pandemic blues. I’m delighted that she is continuing to do so despite Medium’s sabotage of our picture liberties.
