Mercedes Is Making An Electric G-Wagon
The Mercedes Benz EQG concept is an all-electric version of the much-loved G-Wagon.
In some of my past stories, I’ve chatted about cool electric rides, and I’ll drop those links at the end of this post. But right now, let’s dive into the buzz around Mercedes’ new all-electric G-Wagon!
Now, let me hit you with some fresh news — Mercedes is cooking up an electric version of the G-Wagon. This isn’t exactly a brand-new idea; they teased it at the IAA back in 2021. But guess what? Just this past weekend, Ola Kallenius, the big boss at Mercedes, dropped the bombshell that this electric beast is happening for real.
So, what’s the deal with this futuristic machine they’re calling the Mercedes Benz EQG concept? Well, it’s basically the G-Wagon, but with an electric heart, so you can cruise around town without pumping out nasty emissions.
Kallenius is grinning ear to ear about the driving experience, promising that it’s going to be a blast, with hints of all-wheel drive making the rounds in the rumor mill.
But here’s the juicy part — the word on the street is that there will be two sizes to choose from. One will be based on the full-size G-Class, and then there’s a slimmer version in the pipeline too. The big boy might hit the streets as soon as next year, while the smaller sibling isn’t expected to strut its stuff until 2026.
But here’s where it gets spicy — whispers in the wind are saying that the electric versions might come in at a lower price point. Maybe even significantly lower! Imagine that. The G-Wagon has a fiercely loyal fanbase, and if they can make it more affordable, they’ll be winning hearts left and right.
We don’t have any official or even semi-official word on the pricing yet, but we can make some educated guesses based on the competition. Audi and BMW, those German heavyweights, have electric SUVs in the $60–70k range.
Now, bringing a G-Class to market at that price might be a stretch, but it seems like Mercedes is aiming to get in the ballpark. If I were a betting person, I’d put my money on it landing somewhere in the £90–100k range — a bit cheaper, but still dripping with that premium vibe.
Final Words
But remember, all of this is just speculation at this point. We’re gonna have to wait for the big unveiling to get all the juicy details.
But hey, if you’ve got a soft spot for that iconic G-Wagon style, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Who knows, you might just find yourself behind the wheel of an electric G-Wagon sooner than you think!
