What’s going on with Medium?

I haven’t written anything new in a couple of days, so I wasn’t surprised to see my earnings take a dip this morning (though I had done plenty of interacting yesterday, and had received lots of interaction in return).

I assumed it was just one of those things. Medium, in its unknowable profundity, tosses us pennies or pounds at whim. I’ve never spent lots of time trying to figure out how it all breaks down, assuming that if I put in the work, I’d reap the rewards.

Now I’m not so sure.

I woke up this morning not only to a major drop in pay, but to see article after article from my friends who are experiencing the same thing. NOW I’m alarmed. What’s happening around here?

I can only express my angst poetically.

Writers danced in the August rain of riches, but September has whispered its melancholy tune.

Medium, like a capricious muse, bestowed its favor upon us briefly, only to retreat into the enigmatic shadows of the algorithmic abyss.

We danced together in the winds of fortune, but as now the breeze grows colder, we cannot help but wonder if the gale was merely a fleeting gust.

They filled our cups with Summer’s bounty, and we sip from them now the bitter taste of Autumn’s frost.

Here’s hoping tomorrow is better — perhaps merely a glitch, a system error, or a blip caused us to mass panic unnecessarily!

I’m not holding my breath.
