Medium Changed Personal Profiles
Changes in our profile pages.
When you are browsing on Medium, you see there are a lot of changes these days. That is fine. We have seen different kinds of changes already.
Publications could opt-in for a new design, the home page looks polished, different and modern fonts, your page layout is different now. There are so many differences now.
And then we have the way to if a story is curated. It is not seen with tags on the stats page as before. When you want to see if your story is curated, you have to click on the story itself. I haven’t been curated since the new changes, so I can’t tell if you get notified.
Now I see my own page in a different look. And there are so many differences when I see my profile.
What is there in for me? Are my earnings going down or are they going up now? What are the writing options? Are they going to change too? Can I still tag one another?
What has changed?
As said, there are so many changes going on at the moment. And somehow it is overwhelming keeping it up and find a way to cope with it. As an editor of diverse publications, I also see lots of change in the publication that is difficult to do my duty as an editor.
The changes I have noticed:
- the look is totally different
- logo has changed
- light green around as the main colour
- the profile page is different
- about page is not the same
- no click to see your followers and no click to see who follows you
- fonts, layout page
- medium own blog address
- curation not on the story stats page
The look is totally different
The first thing I have seen is the home page. The home page has changed a lot. As you can see, the font is different now, sleek, and modern look. Still simple though. On the right, you’ll see the topics you follow.
When you scroll down, you see more stories from people you follow, the publication you follow, and recommendations from Medium.

Logo has changed
I think everyone has noticed this one, but the logo has changed too: rounds getting smaller. I actually like the letter M much more. Why they changed the logo into this one, I don’t know.

Light green around as the main colour
I also noticed that the main colour for every button is light green now. Still, the publication is the colours that the owner of the publication has set up are still that colour.

The profile page is different
Since this week, the profile pages are different too. Previously we could click our name in the right corner and see a block with a title, and a little bit about the story.
Now the text is much longer. You still can read further, but you have to scroll a little bit for reading the actual story.
Also, you have to scroll too long for another story to read.

About page is not the same
When I click on the about page, I see my name, my bio, my membership, the publications I am an editor for, the number of people I follow and the number of people who follow me, and that you can follow me on Twitter.

No click to see your followers and no click to see who follows you
On my ‘About’-page I can not see who is following me and who I am following. That is a shame. As an editor and writer, I want to know if I don’t edit and follow a bot or someone who is messing up with the platform.
Fonts, and layout page
There are new things on the profile page in the design mode. Some of them I like, some of them I don’t like.

Fonts
I like the new fonts and that we can choose between a few. This is only possible in the design mode for the feel and looks of your profile. This is a good benefit.

Layout
The layout is different now. You can see more text of a story, sometimes the whole story. I think that this story will be read there instead of clicking on that story and that story can be clapped for in this new layout. When you want to earn money, this could be devastating. You only have views and no actual read that counts for the MPP program.

Add a logo to your profile page
One other great feature is adding your own logo. Think about your brand logo, a picture of yourself, or one from Unsplash, Pexels or Pixabay (or a similar website).

Medium own blog address
I like it when we all get our domain name. It is more personal and I believe your name will be more searchable in search machines.
Just take a look at the home page of Niklas Göke.

I have not seen the top writer status on the ‘about’-page after some already got the new domain name. That is a shame.
I haven’t got my own domain name yet, but in the near future I will get one and I am really looking forward to it.

Curation not on the story stats page
I checked my story about things you should know about classical music, I don’t see any topics in which my story is distributed.
I would love to know which topics my story is distributed.

When I look at my story about marketing your music career, I only see ‘Chosen for further distribution’ as well. No topics in which my story is distributed further.
