Me vs Medium: I Reached Top 29% 🤯

And I really don’t know how to talk about it. 🤷‍♂️

Hola amigos! 👨🏼‍🌾

So yeah as I wrote before — the life can be full of surprises. Sometimes you make plans and God just laughs at them. 🙃

My initial plan for this week was to get up at 5 AM, on Monday morning, and start a new week strong by writing this story. 🦸‍♂️

But instead of doing that… I overslept! 😴😅

Nobody’s perfect, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Later when I finally woke up from my winter sleep ( 😅 ) I had to wake up my kids, drive them to school, chat with them, and so on. You know. The routine stuff. 🔄

So when I came back and opened my Medium profile, this is what I saw (more or less):

KABOOM! 💥 My Medium views/reads and (!) earnings are just exploding this month (by my standards). I don’t know the exact reason behind this but it’s obvious that you, my readers, are strongly involved in that. 🧐

So thank you for the 1000th time for reading my stuff! 🙏

And if you clap once or twice on this story I would be as thankful as I possibly can. 👏

🎯 For all of you, who are interested just in plain numbers I can say this — I will get to that, I promise. But if you have a minute or two — please read the whole story. I have an important message for you! 🚨

The Thing

The thing is that on November 2nd, something like ~13 days ago, I created two new Medium publications. 2️⃣

I honestly thought that I would be the only one who publishes and lives there. You know like a comfortable corner, a cozy armchair reserved only for me! 💺 😄

And now, when I am writing these words, one of them has more than 200 followers. In ~13 days. Without any special “promoting” whatsoever. For me, it’s just mind-blowing! 🤯

They are growing like crazy and I didn’t expect that at all! 🚀

Believe me, I found so many good writers there that I am just amazed: Lycos Lane, Emilia Tarah Roberts, Omar Alsh, Ms. KJ, TheNewOldGuy …

Just to name a few! And I really could include dozens of them more but I just don’t want to “walk” too far from the current story. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

So I am astonished by the growth of these pubs.😵‍💫

And managing them is… another surprise! EASY! 👌

Really, it’s not that hard. I have read and written a lot about Medium publications earlier, and I got a feeling that managing them for most of the editors are boring and HARD thing to do. It’s not! 🙅‍♂️

For me, it’s a pure joy! Reading awesome stories, discovering new great writers — what can be better? 💯

But it has one drawback… It’s very time-consuming. ⏰

You see on that Monday morning I had like ~50 new writers wanting to join the pubs and tons of stories submitted for review. So only now, more or less after one day, I feel that I finally caught up with the pace that they offer. 👍

And while it’s a bit calmer now, I found some time for this story. 😌

So from all of this, I think I can make two conclusions:

1. Start your own pubs and you will not regret it (if you have enough time to manage them). I will definitely dive deeper into this topic in my upcoming articles, but it is like that. ⚡️
2. Join pubs that are not “painful” for you. I know very well from my personal experience, how “painful” it is to wait for several days to get published, only to be rejected in the end. Or told to improve some things. In my honest opinion, Medium shouldn’t be like that. 😔

Best Way to Talk About Success 💪

So now, when you feel the whole picture better, I want to talk about another topic or let’s name it “concept” that came to my mind. 🤔

Here on Medium, I try to be as honest as I possibly can.

And I totally get it that some of you might feel bad in many ways reading this story. You can feel angry, jealous, sad, depressed, etc. 😤🥺😠

I mean if I were reading this story two weeks ago, on a bad day, I would probably could feel the same. 🤬

And that’s totally ok! ✅

Just keep in mind that roads of success are absolutely unpredictable, and in a short period of time, everything can flip in any direction. You never know! 😜

Our job is to be prepared for anything — it can be bad luck, it can be success. You can’t control that but just be prepared. 🏋️

So a strange concept was born in my head:

You can love me. You can hate me. But let’s grow together either way! 💪

I will continue doing my job on Medium either way — I will write pure brutal honest stories with (questionable? 😅) value inside.

And I truly believe that with my tips and insights, you can make your Medium journey better. 👍

My Medium Tips, Tricks And Advices

I see that another surprise has popped up just as I am writing these lines — this story is getting too long. And too long on Medium usually means too boring. 🥱

📊 Numbers, numbers, numbers

So now, ladies and gentlemen, you have reached the apex, the zenith, the Everest of this article. 😄

That’s what you truly wanted. The numbers. And here they are:

It’s hard to keep track of things, but I believe that yesterday alone I earned ~$47 for 604 views. It was the best day on Medium for me so far! 🥳

It might seem that it’s nothing. It’s pennies! 😶

Yeah, I mean I earned ~$47. Big deal! In these inflationary times, you would only be able to buy a keychain with the Lambo logo with this sum of money. Don’t you agree, Renee Ismail? 😂

But that’s NOT the most important thing, in my opinion. I am surprised by the pace of the growth and the potential of my Medium journey. 📈

You see, recently I read a summary by Mr. Tony Stubblebine (who is CEO of Medium and commented on one of my stories 🤯).

And if I understood correctly in August alone Medium expected to get 100k+ new paying subscribers. Also in some other podcast, Mr. CEO mentioned that he expects that there will be a million paid Medium members next year. Crazy! 😱

Just imagine if 604 daily views earn ~$47, then what could 10k, 30k, or 100k views bring? You do the math this time. 👩🏻‍🏫😀

So with these earnings, I am quite confident that I’ve reached top 29% of Medium! 🎉

Why top 29%? Because in another article by Buster Benson, this was stated (about Medium monthly earnings):

If we look at all authors earning $10 or more, about 65% earned between $10 and $100, 29% earned between $100-$1000, and 6% earned over $1000.

So I’m hoping that one day I will become that 6%. 😎

I really don’t know anymore what is possible on Medium and what is not.

In the start, I really felt what is like to be at the bottom of this platform. But now there is only one question on my mind — where is the ceiling? 🤔
