How to Submit Your Story to a Publication?
Quick tutorial for essential Medium skill 💪

Why?
If you are completely new to Medium, here is a story that you should read first. It’s an intro about publications:
In theory, when using pubs your stories should get more views, reads and claps.
Step 1. Earning a writer status.
After finding a publication that you like, you have to find a way to apply to be accepted as a writer. Different pubs have different methods for that and you have to do the research by yourself. Usually, you have to fill out some Google Form, write an e-mail, or simply leave a comment on a certain article.
Note: Not all publications accept new writers and there is no standardized way of finding that out. You have to do your own research here.
Recently I have started a few pubs of my own, so feel free to check them out and apply as a writer:
- Short. Sweet. Valuable. — Short and valuable stories told in less than 300 words.
- Long. Sweet. Valuable. — Valuable and long (300+ words) stories.
- Welcome Back to the Platform! — stories about coming back to Medium.
Also, you can check out this list by Robin Wilding:
Step 2. Submitting your story.

When you are added as a writer, submitting to publication is really easy — while editing your story click on 3 dots in the upper right corner, then “Add to publication”, select one from the list, and click “Select and continue”.
Take a last look at your story draft, and if you are happy with it, click the green “Submit” button.
That’s it! When you submit your story, someone from publication’s editors will either approve or decline your story. This process can take from a few minutes to a few days, so be patient!
