And it’s not a clickbait! 🤯

So yeah. Right before writing this story, I took a screenshot of my Medium profile. And it looked like this:

An empty (even a scary? 😅) place to be in. 🏜️

This story will be full of numbers, so let’s start with… twelve. Twelve long and devastating days. 🔟+2️⃣

This is how long ago I wrote my “real” last story on Medium. This is how long you have waited to read this one. 📖

In this period of time, many bad things could have happened. Just think about it. I could have been rapping in the shower one day, pretending that a hairdryer is ma mic, and accidentally dropped it into the water. Bzzz! 💥⚡🔌

You never know. 🤷🏼‍♂ ️

But I’m glad it didn’t happen. I’m glad that I’ve survived. 🦸🏻‍♂️

And most of all — I’m glad that we can meet here once again. I hope you’re happy too! 😊

The real story that happened to me after I posted my last one…

🔥 The Day to Remember

OK, so I have to be completely honest with you — this article can be seen a little bit “click-baity”. No, no, no — the numbers are real, I will show you them in a second (or to be exact in 31 seconds (real Mediumers will understand me 😅)).

The “Click-baitiness” is hiding somewhere else. 🕵️‍♂️

For example, let’s take a look at this section — it is called “The Day to Remember”. To be completely honest — I don’t remember the day itself very well! 😵

If I recall it right I was not “under the influence” ( 😂 ), but maybe because of lack of sleep, or maybe because I was very busy, it didn’t seem like something special was going on. It looked like a usual day for me — very intense, a lot of writers waiting to be added to the pubs, a lot of stories to review, and so on. Business as usual. 😎

What is also spiced with the clickbait magic here is the headline of this article. I thought a bit about how I should write it. 📰

You see, my last story was about my failure on Medium. The story was called “When You Hope To Go Viral but Earn $0.09 Instead”. I will not put the link here on purpose, so if you really care about it — Google it! 🧐😁

So I made a conclusion that people don’t like to read stories about failures. Or my rap. Or both. 🎤👎

Either way, I read somewhere that putting a random number (in my case not random 🔥) in the headline is a guaranteed recipe for success. So let’s try it and see if it really works! 💪

Anyway, back to the story now.

Since starting my Medium pubs I am seeing this icon all the time:

No tumbleweeds here. 😅

And it’s not like that this icon “rises” to 99+ after I login after my deep night winter sleep. No! 😴❌

It’s like I add new writers to the pubs, review a few stories, and then HELLO! 👋 99+ again. Believe me, it’s quite crazy! 🤪

And don’t get me wrong — I am not complaining! I think to see this type of icon is a dream, a goal for every Medium writer. 🖤

But it was quite obvious that I wouldn’t be able to handle this type of action by myself alone. So I made a decision of a lifetime! 🦸‍♂️😄

I noticed that Medium does not update the stats page very often (especially Medium Partner Program earnings 😒), so the very next morning I saw these whooping numbers…

#1 — My most important message to you — success on Medium exists and it is possible to reach it!

Most of the time Medium looks a very quiet and calm place. Remember the GIF with tumbleweeds? It’s like that. ~99% of the time. Trust me, I’ve been there. 😅

I thought a lot about it and I really don’t get it where those Medium readers are hiding most of the time. 🤷🏼‍♂️

But! But when they show up — oh boy, fasten your seatbelts! 🚀😂

#2 — Internet and Medium don’t sleep.

And, sadly, I adore sleeping. 💤😅

Sorry for all those writers on the pubs who had to wait to be added, and for those who waited for the stories to be reviewed. ⏳

#3 — Is it possible to replicate it?

And yeah here I could say some cliché like “It’s easy! You can do it too!”.

But to be really honest by saying that I wouldn’t be very honest with you (jeez, I really should start the rapper career one day 😂).

Don’t get me wrong — I really would like that every Medium writer would discover that other, popular side of the platform. And it’s really possible to achieve this! 💪

But… But it all comes down to the almighty Medium algorithm also known as Medium Distribution system. I have no officially boosted stories, nothing very special on my profile, so no idea why it picked me up. To be honest I really don’t know where’s the secret here. 🤷🏼‍♂️

It seems that somehow Medium algo just fell in love with me this month. ❤️🖤🤭

And I hope that Medium algo will not betray me with some better-looking writer and this love affair will last forever and ever and ever! 💍👰🏻🤵🏻🕊️😂

#4 — It’s easy for you to talk when you’re at the top, you little bastard! 😠

And I totally agree with you. The hardest thing is to write when you’re at the bottom, not at the top. Of course, it’s still not easy (😅) but starting from ground zero, with no experience, no readers, and no followers is much much harder, in my opinion.

#5 — It’s not ALL about the numbers

Medium is not ALL about the earnings, followers, subscribers, and so on. Of course, they are nice to have, but the most important thing here (at least for me) — is…
