Me Time — You Need It Too!
For me — Coffee and ‘Me time’ — both are no less than a quick vacation.
Slow down and Enjoy life, you can’t rush a cherry blossom.
I have been sick for a while and still recovering and coincidently my work has also been hectic with lots of zoom meetings and strict deadlines. My body and mind both were kind of exhausted and reached to its limit.
Somewhere I was craving for “me” time. Honestly, I never felt this way before. As I am learning to navigate my new routine, I learned the need to pause and take a moment. All this while, I realized the importance of slowing things down and taking a much-needed break.
Make yourself a priority once in a while. It’s not selfish, it’s necessary.
We’re all busy. Whether it’s responsibilities at home or work, many of us focus so much on doing it all that we forget to focus on ourselves. But ensuring your health and happiness is critical.
You are constantly thinking about work, or worry that you’re not proving yourself or maybe you’re just caught up in the regular “life” tasks of paying bills, keeping a clean house, and managing the day-to-day hustle.
How do you carve out time for yourself, your health, and your needs when you’re always on?
Taking time for yourself is important just like anything other things you do in life. And for this reason, you should stop thinking you are “too busy” to take care of your own needs and start scheduling some “me time”.
Here is what you can do —
Stop and take a deep breathe
Realize that the world doesn’t rest completely on your shoulders. Fitting in time for yourself is also essential in order to develop healthy habits.
And in some cases, you need to let go and trust that everything will be OK, even if some tasks on your list are done imperfectly or not at all.
Determine and define your needs
When it comes to health and happiness, different people have different needs. But there are some universal truths. We all need the basics of sleep, physical movement, and sufficient food.
And to thrive, most require quality time with people, time in nature, time for spiritual connection, and time doing something that brings joy.
Eliminate the friction between yourself and your goal.
Define what is important to you. May be it’s sleep or proper nutrition or some exercise routine or reading a book or just a simple walk. Define it just like you do for any other important activity.
What you can do
It can be physical movement, quality time with people you care about, moments in nature and many more activities.
As weather is getting warmer, I’m looking forward to my long walks and run.
Take a look at your schedule and where there may be small pockets of time. What would work to fulfill your needs now, within the time you have.
To reinforce positive behaviors in the moment, think about the details in advance. Eliminate the friction between yourself and your goal.
Lay out your workout clothes by the foot of your bed — or even wear them to bed as pajamas — to save time before going out for a run.
What is really important is to define what you need and start setting the time️.
Focusing on myself on a daily basis certainly made me productive and refreshing, but it will also motivate you to stop wasting time on less satisfying everyday activities.
You have to remember “the world doesn’t rest completely” on our shoulders. Even if we don’t realize it, often there are people around us who we can “spread out” responsibilities to and (shudder) it’s OK if some things don’t get done.
Set the time
“Always on” doesn’t have to mean you must sacrifice your needs. It just means sometimes finding the time to make sure that your focus is on yourself.
You will never find time for anything. If you want time, make it ~ Charles Buxton
If you feel as though there is always more you could be doing, you’ll need to consciously set aside time for self-care.
In doing so, you will clearly give yourself permission that this is the most important and appropriate thing to do now. Scheduling helps you to see where self-care fits into your schedule, and how other essential activities have their places around it.
Just taking a few moments from your day can make a difference in your.
Courageously feel everything without running or repressing or denying or distracting yourself by doing. Give room for your body, your mind, your spirit, to reorganize.
Why not start from today.
What do you prefer doing when deciding on some “me” time. Do share.
