May Interview Questions
All about me! Love it!
Photo to represent me is Japan — visited two years ago and fell in love with the country! Can hardly wait to return!
[1] What did you like to do most when you were 10? They say that this hobby is likely what brings you the most joy in life — is this something you still do?
My top three activities I loved to do when I was ten was read books, ride my bike all over the neighborhood and climb the magnolia trees and maple trees in my grandparents’ backyard. Sounds like I was a tomboy, but quite the opposite. But all of those activities were ways to escape and to go on adventures, either figuratively or literally. And today I still love to read and ride bikes and now I just admire trees as I stand below them.
[2] What genres do you write? Why do you choose to write with these types of structures? What’s attractive about them?
I write basically poetry and haiku and have been doing this for years now. I finally joined Medium last summer during the pandemic because I wanted to connect with other like minded poets and writers.
For me, poetry and haiku are the best avenue to try to unearth all those feelings that course through me. When I write an article it seems flat, but when I can write poetry, images begin to flow and it feels more natural to write. Of course, lots of my poetry fall flat also, but for me it’s more fun to play with words and images and create a free-flowing poem.
[3] What’s your all-time favourite childhood TV show?
This is stumping me. I really didn’t have one. We didn’t watch much TV at all except for cartoons on the weekend. But if you ask me about my favorite childhood book, I would say “Anne of Green Gables” — the whole series!
[4] Pick one sense and tell us about the most relaxing thing you do in relation to that sense.
Sense of smell; I love to go outside and breathe deeply. No matter what time of year, no matter what season, there is always a scent to delight me, to calm me and even to take me down ‘memory lane’.
Right now, the lilac bushes in full bloom give me a heady sense of delight; in the autumn and winter, the intoxicating smoke of wood stoves or leaves burning carry me back to when I was a girl on camping trips; and when I’m in my own garden the summertime offers the delicious smell of roses or sun-warmed tomatoes.
[5] Who is someone you want to connect more with this month? How might you go about doing this?
Time to start reconnecting! I’ve hibernated a bit too much so need to begin reaching out again. Nobody in particular, but everyone in my ‘circle of five’.
And I also am delighted to find this great community here on Medium. Am excited to be ‘meeting’ fellow poets and authors as we share our works and support each other.
This or that?
Bold your choice!
olive oil or butter
e-books or physical books
libraries or bookstores
noodles or rice — BOTH — EVEN WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL I WOULD CHOOSE ‘BOTH’ ON TRUE/FALSE QUESTIONS SOMETIMES! And I was also so shocked when my teacher marked them wrong!
messy desk or organized desk

This poem spilled out of me based on one of those poignant, sad nights that will stay with me for a long time.
A piece where you bare your heart
A piece that is longer than 3 mins; none at this point; will this be one of my goals to work toward? Definitely!
