Love, It's In The Eye Of The Beholder
If only they knew!
It saddens me to write this article, but it is a topic that I would like to write about, how people to, against how they see themselves, I put it down to the media in this country (UK).
When we hit the age of celebrity status, be it supermodels, sports stars or musicians, to name but a few, the media caught on to ways that they could edit pictures to make money from.
It is the nature of the beast, as they say, but what impact does this have on you, me, our friends and family? It often makes us self-conscious, and we long to look like someone else.
An article I found online stated that 16.5 billion dollars were spent on cosmetic surgery in the USA in 2018; I have linked the article below if you would like to read it.
What impact has this had on peoples lives? Are the people who had this surgery now happy? have they continued down this path and had more surgery done?
What impact has this had on their mental health? And how does it affect their friends and family? Have you had cosmetic surgery? Was this to correct a defect or purely to enhance your body?
Although I will not name drop names, I have a few celebrity friends; one is a reality TV star and has been on four shows in the UK.
She has had cosmetic surgery to enhance "her body" and regularly shows her assets as a living. However, I can tell you that she is unhappy with her body, although she keeps this a secret.
I do not know how she can put on such a brave face in public, but she can pull it off, and to many, she leads the perfect life.
At what cost does this come to the individual? How much money will they spend, how will this affect their mental health, will they be seen as icons or fools?
Take this back to everyday life; I have someone very close to me; she is constantly upset with her looks; in my eyes, she is stunning and has a fantastic personality to back that up.
It is hard for me to understand why she feels so down about her; look; I blame it on the media (rightly or wrongly). They always show off the "perfect man or woman", and you people today especially strive for that perfection.
I have always said that love is in the eyes of the beholder. Whilst I can't change her mind, I find her attractive and will continue to give my genuine compliments daily, and I hope one day she sees herself as I do.
You do not need filters on photo's; you do not need cosmetic surgery; you don't even need makeup in my eyes. You are beautiful, I love you for who you are, you are attractive, funny, and I love your smile; you are my perfect woman.
