Summary

Local writer Jay C Wells, participating in the 💯 Story Challenge, opts for photography over writing due to a busy day and the allure of the golden hour, causing a humorous satirical piece on The Kraken News.

Abstract

In an unexpected twist, Jay C Wells, a Medium writer known for his participation in the 💯 Story Challenge, decides to take a break from writing to pursue photography during the golden and blue hours. Despite the expectation to feed the Medium algorithm with content, Wells chooses to share images instead of a story, citing the calming effect of long walks with his camera amidst the hectic pace of social media. The Kraken News, in an attempt to fill the story with words, finds Wells more engrossed in his pictures than in providing a narrative, leading to a satirical piece that reflects on the writer's unconventional approach to the challenge.

Opinions

  • The Kraken News expresses a humorous disappointment in Wells' choice to take photographs instead of writing a story, as expected from a writer participating in a story challenge.
  • Wells is portrayed as prioritizing the relaxing and mind-clearing experience of photography over the demands of content creation for Medium.
  • The pursuit of Wells for the perfect shot is depicted as a comical chase, even over a slippery, snow-covered bridge, highlighting the publication's dedication to the story.
  • The Kraken News acknowledges the beauty of the views captured by Wells but still expresses a desire for his return to writing humorous content the following day.
  • The article concludes with a tongue-in-cheek call to support "great journalism" by paying for The Guardian, and to support Wells in writing more "nonsense" through platforms like Ko-fi and Patreon, suggesting a satirical take on the value of content creation and compensation.

Breaking News: Local Writer Too Lazy to Come Up with a Story

Delivers pictures instead

This could be the lazy writer, just that everything would be covered with snow, and the dude would look different … whatever / Photo by Zhang Kenny on Unsplash

Saturday, 11 February 2023, Somewhere. In a shocking turn of events, local Medium writer and 💯 Story Challenge participant Jay C Wells was too lazy to come up with a story.

Asked how that could have happened, Wells replied he had a busy day and then decided to go on a walk with his camera. Instead of feeding the beast — also known as the almighty Medium algorithm — the writer, who recently improved his meagre views by writing Medium’s newest breaking news, took pictures instead.

“I had more than one hour of the golden hour to work with, followed by about 30 minutes of blue hour,” said Wells, “That was plenty of time to cover some ground.”

Having long walks with the camera has a relaxing effect, according to Wells. In an era characterised by its fast pace and hectic social media, concentrating on perceiving and capturing your surroundings is perfect for clearing your mind.

We forced Wells to talk more to fill this story with words, but he was more interested in looking at the pictures.

Even fleeing over a narrow wooden bridge covered with slippery snow could not stop our pursuit.

The Kraken News must acknowledge that the view was incredible. Still, we hope he writes something funny tomorrow.
