Live Each Day to the Fullest

Crossing off my bucket list and creating a bigger bucket list as I live the life I love with tremendous gratitude and zeal

November has always been a month that prompts gratitude for me, but this month I am feeling especially grateful for more than I may have ever realized. My “family” of inspiring people that I surround myself with, both virtually and physically, is growing and I am grateful for each individual that plays a pivotal role in my life. As my awareness in life grows, so too does my gratitude and my enjoyment of each day.

I recently met Julie, now forever my “soul sister.” We were Instagram friends for six years before finally meeting in person in her hometown of Sun Valley Idaho. My visit with Julie renewed my spirit on so many levels. I then had the pleasure of spending several days in Scottsdale, Arizona with a couple more friends who reminded me of how important friendship, connection, and community truly are. Virtual friendships and communication serve their purpose when we have no other option, but they cannot replace a physical hug. Sharing meals, laughter and hugs with friends is truly a gift.

I realized how fortunate I am for having the flexibility in my life and the ability to travel and to work from anywhere. I literally had my computer on my lap and my Wi-Fi running on my personal hotspot while my friend and photographer drove. How amazing is that technology?! I love getting in the car, rolling the window down, turning the music up and driving. It is incredibly liberating.

I started thinking during parts of the long drive between destinations that I am nearly halfway through my life and although I embrace my age it did make me a little sad. I feel privileged to have experienced so many wonderful and special things and yet I still have so much that I desire to accomplish.

Since Ravyne Hawke has so beautifully reminded me with the November prompt Gratitude, in Promptly Written, I want to thank both her and Sahil Patel who wrote so eloquently this morning about living each day to the fullest in his article, November’s Third Week Prompt of Lifeline. He inspired me to write about my bucket list even though his prompt was to write in poem form. He really got me thinking again since being home from my latest trip.

I am grateful to have already crossed so many unique experiences off of my bucket list that many people dream of, to do what I love for a living, and to be surrounded by so many inspiring supportive people. Yes, I have difficult days, many of them, but then I practice gratitude and suddenly I feel empowered and inspired all over again and I find the strength to continue along the path that I know is meant for me.

Here are a few wonderful things I have already accomplished that I am proud of:

  • I have been on an African Safari
  • I have traveled through Europe
  • I have been swimming with dolphins
  • I have been swimming with a shark
  • I have been swimming with giant stingrays
  • I have found and am living my life’s purpose and love what I do
  • I have run a full marathon
  • I have written a book
  • I took photos in Upper Antelope Canyon
  • I have stayed in The Presidential Suite of Hotels
  • I have flown First Class
  • I have been to a Playboy Party
  • I have met Famous People
  • I have ridden the Bullet Train

Having said all of that, there is always more to add to the list of what I desire to see, do, and accomplish. The more I am exposed to the more I thirst to experience.

The 2007 movie The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman is a great movie that depicts two men coming to terms with their lives and what they still want to see and do before they die. They do a great job of integrating humor and humility.

So, After reading Sahil’s article and reflecting more about my latest trip, upcoming health obstacles with my daughter that I need to overcome, the upcoming holidays, and all that I truly am grateful for, I compiled my latest bucket list. It may change in the next fifty years before my life’s completion, but for now, here goes, in no particular order:

  • Ride in a hot air balloon
  • See the hot air balloon festival in Turkey
  • Be an official TED Talk Speaker
  • See the northern lights
  • Marry a man who cherishes me the same way I do him
  • Build a house and name it The Good Life Ranch
  • Be a New York Times Best Selling Author
  • Travel to all my top destinations ( I mentioned those in a recent article linked here)
  • See my children succeed in whatever terms they define success
  • Learn to surf
  • Play and interact with elephants in Africa
  • Make love in the rain
  • Learn calligraphy
  • Own a large Ganesh statue next to my front door

In order to achieve my bucket list I know I need to level up. I have to take risks, push myself, and yes, probably fail a few times before I get where I want to be. It is all part of the process, but I have lived long enough to know I prefer to choose love over fear, soul over ego, and through those choices I will find the courage to persevere and overcome the obstacles so that I can truly live the good life, the life that I love, the life that I know I am worthy of.

We were not born to survive, but instead to thrive. Each and every single one of us has the opportunity. It is simply a matter of showing up. A matter of breaking self-limiting beliefs that prevent us from achieving all that we desire. It is time to stop worrying about what others think and stop living life to please others. It is time to start going after my own dreams each and every day. Sahil Patel, thank you for this important reminder. I have the vision, I have set my goals, and I am dedicated to achieving all of my greatest dreams.

I am tagging a few people that have been extra kind and commented, highlighted and clapped for my stories, reached out and been extra supportive. I appreciate the entire Medium community, but a special shoutout in no particular order to Sahil Patel, Ravyne Hawke, Marcus, Yana Bostongirl, Arbab Z., Krystal Mossbarger, Kira Dawn, A.H. Mehr, Thief, Dr. Preeti Singh, Dr Mehmet Yildiz, Warren Brown, Kris Bedenian, Lion~, pockett dessert, APURVAM, jules, Penelope Mayfield, Deb Fiore, Annelise Lords, Diana C.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. What is on your bucket list? Please comment and tell me. Dream really big. It is fun to think about all that is possible. I love connecting with so many of you. It truly is a small world, especially when we make an effort.

I would love for you to subscribe to my email so that we can stay connected if you enjoy my articles and poems. Thank you again Ravyne Hawke for the lovely November Gratitude Prompt that with the magic of Sahil’s post inspired me to write this.
