Life Lessons From An Expensive Lotion Bottle

How she managed to attract abundance after learning about letting go of a luxury item

Sally finally understood what her obsession with expensive lotions is about. As she glanced over her dresser, she could see that she has got several bottles. They were all opened and some, with more lotion left than others.

Indeed, her buying mentality behind the purchase of several bottles: they are never enough.

Sally was not actively seeking to find out more about her obsession. In fact, she had first approached me because she needed help on clearing limiting money blocks, so that she can achieve her financial goals with less struggle. Sally often felt inadequate and had an irrational fear about not being able to hold on to money. She had problems in believing that she is worthy and deserving of success despite being smart and good in her work.

When we started working together, we wanted to identify how she had formed some of her money beliefs. Not surprisingly, they were found to be rooted in the past. She started to recall a memory related to an expensive bottle of lotion.

Sally could still recall the vivid details of what happened.

It happened when she was 6 years old.

The Story Behind the Bottle of Lotion

When Sally was 6 years old, her family’s fortunes had turned for the worse. It was traumatising when they were forced out of their home. Things got worse when her mother, who needed to sort out some affairs, decided to leave Sally with an aunt.

At the door, 6-year old Sally and her aunt went into a tussle. They were fighting over a bag of personal toiletries left by her mother. Her aunt was trying to pry it from her hands.

Even though Sally made a desperate and valiant attempt in her fight, it was to no avail. Just before the bag was forcefully taken away, Sally caught sight of an item that peeked through the opening — a branded bottle of lotion. Her heart sank immediately.

What the Branded Bottle of Lotion Meant

Obviously, there was some kind of meaning that 6-year old Sally had attached to the lotion.

I helped Sally to connect with her younger self for answers.

To 6-year old Sally, the bottle was like no other. It was a luxury item. The lotion was symbolic of indulgence that her mother (and herself) used to enjoy.

The bottle was the last piece of possession that represented the old life and 6-year old Sally wanted to hang on to it.

While it was forcefully taken away from her, she dismally concluded, “I’m not worthy to have what I want in life.”

From Bottled Feelings to Breakthrough

Well, after knowing what her traumatic memory was about, we were able to help her 6-year old’s release her bottled emotions and old beliefs. Next, we embedded a set of positive beliefs at her subconscious. It was exactly the shift that Sally needed to let go of this past memory.

We continued to work on releasing money blocks from a few other memories. Doing these helped to strengthen her new beliefs about her worthiness. The shift in her energy system did wonders. Sally shared that she was able to experience positive experiences a lot more easily.

Finally after 3 months, Sally reported that she achieved her financial goals. She was elated! Additionally, she was able let go of her crippling doubt about not being able to hold on to her money. Her confidence in herself grew tremendously. I celebrate her success!

Compulsive Obsession with Pencils, Erasers and Other Items

Sally had thought it was pretty normal for women to spend on skin care. Don’t all women love the luxurious feel of moisturised skin? Little did she know that the bottles on her dresser offered her clues to a potential breakthrough.

I discovered that expensive lotions are not the only things that a person can create a compulsive buying behaviour for.

For instance, there are also pencils, erasers and other odd items.

Clients would share about their secret obsession when they suddenly realise the connection between their emotional story and the items that they have been collecting. It’s like an “aha” moment for them. Things are now making a lot more sense about the subconscious driver to their habit and spending patterns.

Play the Detective to Break Limiting Barriers

Obviously, it is NEVER about the lotions, pencils or some other material item.

Rather, it’s about the meaning that was applied.

What did the item represent? What was its significance? What core limiting beliefs did it help create?

Once we have these answers in place, breaking barriers from the inside-out become a lot easier.
