What Can Financial Lack Teach You About Abundance
How to resolve the contrasting experience of financial lack and scarcity with a conceptual understanding of universal abundance
Many of us get can find it hard to reconcile the financial lack that we experience in our reality and the concepts of universal abundance.
According to spiritual gurus and manifestation masters, the universe is one of abundance and that there is enough to go round. Thus, we repeat money mantras in support of these teachings all day. Yet, if we are to get in touch with what we truly think and feel, we may realise that a part of us is in doubt and denial.
A spiritual disconnection arises — where what we think we ought to believe spiritually does not quite match with our physical experience of financial lack.
Let’s admit this for a start: it may seem impossible to will away the perception of scarcity in the world. After all, limits are very much a natural part of our physical life. It is true that we encounter time and space constraints. The physical world has some kind of built-in mechanism where conditions and limits are already preset.
Just think about it, there are 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in one minute. We have got to finish the work that needs to be done within a certain time frame. Thus, there is a limit to how much we can make. Then, there is also ageing and the cycle of life and death. More urgently, fear reminds us that there are only 10 spaces for the 1,000 people who have applied for a position. Or that we have to save 3 years to take an overseas holiday.
Where it perhaps hit us in the stomach most: the 4 slices of apple pie in the fridge that is clearly not enough for 6 people in the house during a lockdown.
Thus, with experiencing scarcity in the physical world, you hit a block each time the mind goes up against a limit. Invariably, you would tell yourself, “there is not enough”. No matter how many mantras you repeat, going up against a limit can set off panic buttons or alarm bells.
To beat money scarcity, you may even chase after ways to plug the hole. It is how you find yourself working a lot harder and longer, which rarely fixes the problem of scarcity or limit that exists in the mind. Or, you make the choice to give up your share of the apple pie, because well…never mind about what you want since others are more worthy than you!
So how then can you make a shift from a paradigm of lack? What are you supposed to be learning from the situation that you are in? What paradigm can you adopt for a breakthrough to happen?
What Financial Lack is NOT Teaching You
Money is being printed based on monetary policies by the central bank or government, so technically there is lots of cash in the financial system. Hence, money is not scarce but a situation of financial lack is only true according to your own physical experience of money.
A situation of money scarcity is not teaching you to dwell in misery. It is certainly not asking you to keep awake at night. Or to blame your spouse, the government or tax authorities either.
Let’s acknowledge that there can be limits in the physical world where certain resources are limited. On the other hand, it helps to remember that scarcity and limitation can also be a construct of the ego. However, when you identify too much with limiting thoughts, it can stop you from being free to create what you want or achieving a breakthrough in life.
If you can recall, your soul did choose to experience scarcity in an incarnation, so that it can embody the truth of its divine nature. Contrast allows for experiential knowing. Your soul can only know abundance through having a contrasting situation in a physical life. It’s like you will not embody what cold is without the contrasting experience of heat. Or it’s hard to figure out what love is without going through fear in an experience.
An experience of financial lack is something that you can choose to reverse. As much as we can undertake measures or strategies to “make more money”, it also involves an inside-out approach where we first reawaken to the truth.
What Financial Lack is Teaching You Instead
Remember this: limits are not dead ends.
Also, you are not meant to be lying to yourself. So, stop sabotaging yourself by repeating mantras and not acknowledging that you are having doubt and confusion. Instead, make distinctions clearly and consider what lack has to teach you.
What scarcity is truly teaching you is about appreciating what is important:
- Are you appreciating life in its minute details?
- Are you making the best use of a limited life span?
- Are you making the best use of limited resources?
- Are you valuing what appears to be finite: time, money and the life energy of your family and friends?
In short, lack or scarcity is teaching you to redirect your focus.
When you start to put your attention on the things that matter, illusion dissolves. There is no need to grasp, cling or hanker for something out there because there is already richness with what is already available to you. Thus, you practice gratitude for what you do have and what life has to offer beyond what you do.
At the same time, to receive, you integrate the awareness that you are indeed worthy. Yes…go ahead and take a bite out of that apple pie! By redirecting your focus, you also undertake the actions that prioritise what will truly make a difference. Hence, in a situation of financial lack, a great question to ask is: what change do I need to make in a better use of my limited time and resources, for the results that I hope to manifest?
Embody Spiritual Expansiveness for Financial Abundance to Follow
Material things do not last.
Money clearly doesn’t.
You can’t bring it with you when you die.
Indeed, a reconciliation between spiritual and financial abundance is rooted in the knowing…
“We are not humans having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings in a human experience.”
You recognise that abundance is already here. It is in the ordinary things, the ordinary moments, the ordinary acts. It is in the air that you breathe. It is in the trees in the park. It is in the laughter of your loved ones.
In that moment of recognition, your soul realises abundance as a quintessential quality of its eternal being. You integrate the realisation with all your senses in the physical body. As you keep up the practice of recognising abundance in its various forms day after day and even though there are time and space constraints, you embody the inner experience of richness — such that an expansion eventually results in the manifestation of an abundance breakthrough (including financial abundance).
