Let’s Burn It All—A Prayer for the New Year
A call to release the old; to rise and rebuild afresh

As this year—and the decade—ebbs into the pond of the past, freshwater lies ahead. It’s been a challenging time for many. Personally, it’s been a time of upheaval; a time to unchain old shackles, and attempt to start anew.
Often, I’ve described my last couple of years quoting Charles Dickens, introduction to his A Tale of Two Cities:
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.
It’s been stormy and occasionally sensational, but, I’m done with despair; I’m shedding my doubts, and while I may still occasionally act foolish, may this be the age of sageness.
It’s time to rise
My wild sister across the ocean, Yael Wolfe responded to one of my articles about letting go last night, saying;
I just want to burn it all.
I feel you! So, let’s light the fire—and let’s burn ourselves with it:
You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame. How could you become new if you haven’t first become ashes? — Friedrich Nietzsche
Reimagine—release—rebuild—refine
Earlier this year, I wrote a mantra for change, and I’ll continue to recite this as we transition into this new time. While we reflect on what lies behind and reimagine what we want for the times ahead, let’s release (and burn) all that no longer serves us. Let’s rise, rebuild and refine as we move forward:
As I reflect on my current self: my habits, needs and desires, I close my eyes, open my heart and, without limitation, I REIMAGINE the life I want.
Gently, and with gratitude, I RELEASE all that no longer serves or support me and my vision. With ease, I let go, as I move closer to my essence.
An empty vessel, free to receive, I REBUILD, with the tools that were there all along, and with the knowledge that I am, and always was, complete.
Moving forward, I continue to REFINE, adding only that which aligns. Purposefully, sensually and with intention, I elevate habit to ritual; thus making the mundane divine.
Let’s first become ashes
Before we can rise and become new, we must first become ashes.
Calling on the ancient Deities of change; of destruction, recreation, alchemy, and healing. I call on Kali, Chinnamasta, Isis and Kwan Yin — and, like Inanna (Ishtar) may we descend to the underworld and ascend revived.
Goddesses and Warriors, with the winds of change howling around us, let’s hold hands and gather ‘round the sacred fire. Let’s leap in and burn. Replenished by freshwater, may our ashes fertilize the earth below, and like seeds, may we sprout and grow!
With reverence, veneration and much love, I wish you all a powerful transition!
