Let Hope Coalesce
S&S Poetry Prompt: Hope

we walked across barren lands, emptied from recent events — searching.
searching until perhaps we wondered if after all of this, there was nothing to search for, that we’d forgotten what we’d even been searching for.
but just as we gave up, a single wisp, a feather wandered unpredictably from the sky: a single strand of hope.
you reached for it, and I’d thought, maybe this is one in a million, and I’d never find my own.
we had walked on, rough terrain, gravel, piercing the soles of our feet, forgetting of a search mission, until rough terrain turned to a soft feathered path, as not one in a million, but a million and one pieces fell from the sky.
Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) wants to thank R. Rangan PhD for this beautiful prompt: hope. This poem is dedicated to Hope Coalesce, whose pen name so quietly primed me into a more positive attitude until — far too long after I first discovered her account — I realized what the name meant: to have hope come together. This poem is dedicated to Hope, for poetry that inspired me to write more and to think of the world quite differently. 💖
