Hello there,

Hope you are doing well. Today I am here with one more lesson to help you spark your side hustle.

If you are new here, check out the last published lesson here:

If you are living under a rock, in last few months, many big tech companies announced major layoffs and froze hiring until next year.

And it doesn’t matter how smart, talented, or hard-working you are.

If a business is not growing, and revenues are not increasing, the easiest way is to lay off employees to cut costs.

The thing is everyone is disposable, but what is not disposable is your talent and eagerness to learn, unlearn, and relearn. That’s where you are going to shine.

Let me run you through the fundamentals so you can take advantage of it.

The goal is to work for a reasonable amount of hours so the mind can expand, relax, and join the dots needed for true creativity.

Do this…

Slow down to speed up

It’s my go-to quote these days.

“slow is smooth, smooth is fast.”

When we slow down everything gets better and gives clarity.

  • Become mindful
  • Start deep thinking
  • Foresee broader impact
  • Collaborate with empathy and kindness

You need to increase your value to the world. Deep, focused work is a skill that has a great value today.

To remain valuable in today’s economy, you must master the art of quickly learning complicated things. If you don’t cultivate this ability, you’re likely to fall behind as technology advances.

Optimize your time

In today’s world, time is your ultimate currency because it’s yours to live.

If you ask people, everyone is busy and they don’t have time for anything else. Their calendar is fully blocked and there is no thinking time to reflect or try out new things.

And working around the clock doesn’t mean you are productive or getting things done.

It simply means you are not utilizing your time efficiently and probably you are unorganized.

What you can do:

  1. Eliminate distractions like your phone, constant notification, pop-ups
  2. Automate your daily work as much as you can
  3. Delegate some of your work to free up time

It’s about optimizing to do deep work in less time.

Time is your real asset, so spend wisely.

Create a new definition of work

A 2012 McKinsey study found that the average knowledge worker now spends more than 60 percent of the workweek engaged in electronic communication and Internet searching, with close to 30 percent of a worker’s time dedicated to reading and answering e-mail alone.

In fact, they report that they are as busy as ever in the human history.

I am the one who work for 15 hours per day, some days even more barely taking time off.

Even if I am not at work physically, my mind is still there, and have a hard time detaching from it.

If you’re doing work you dislike then it doesn’t matter how hard you work.

You’re always going to hate it, and that has an impact on your quality of life.

Realizing now, getting critical work done in a flow state requires a ritual without any distractions.

When you’re in a flow state the concept of time transforms and you get more done in shorter time.

Bringing it all together

A side hustle isn’t about finding a passion or purpose.

As Tim says, It’s about finding an obsession. Something you can do for the rest of your life that doesn’t feel like work anymore, so the concept of time and the need to take holidays from your work or one day retire is dead.

Once you reach this point, it’s ten times easier to reach financial freedom because work takes on a new life, and your brain can be the most creative it’s been in decades.

Slow down to speed up.
