Learn How To Open Your Mind In 5 Steps

Is your mind closed off to possibilities? Open your mind to endless potential.

I used to think that great things only happened to others and I couldn’t understand why they didn’t happen to me.

Why wasn’t I getting the same opportunities as my sister, my friends, or other high achievers? Sure, some of this relates to past feelings of being small and not deserving. And, some of it stems from my lack of self-belief.

As I journey down my path of deep transformation, I become acutely aware that my mind has been closed to my innate potential. This in turn, puts some major roadblocks up and stops endless possibilities dead in their tracks.

Here’s my new motto: Every day I work towards making the impossible, possible.

Thinking about impossible things is a recurrent theme in The Ultimate Coach — the book that has completely changed my mind and my view of self.

Every morning I write down 3 impossible thoughts with the intent that eventually they will manifest into reality. Of course, I don’t know that they all will. But treating my journal as a living document I believe that these impossibilities will indeed be possible one day.

Is your mind open or closed?

Ultimately, it is your mindset that distinguishes those who are open minded, to those who are not.

When you close your mind off you are shutting the door to reaching your potential. It’s easy to slam that door shut and stay in your comfort zone. But you can’t stay comfy and reach your fullest potential at the same time. Sorry to break it to you but ….. It’s just not going to happen.

Here are some simple ways to understand how open or closed your mind really is:

· When something out of the ordinary or strange happens, do you ignore it (closed mind), or do you want to get right in there and find out what’s going on (open mind)?

· Open-minded individuals are naturally more curious.

· Do you step forth when presented with a challenging idea or situation? Or do you back down and pretend nothing’s going on?

· Open-minded individuals are not afraid to ask questions. They also make great listeners, and don’t interrupt the person currently speaking. They respect and value other’s thoughts, insights and opinions.

· Those with an open-mind have no issue with being “wrong” and are genuinely humble folk.

Having an open mind is a matter of self-awareness

The good news is that not one person is perfect all the time. Even those who are generally open-minded will experience certain situations where their mind shuts the door.

The trick of course is to be self-aware and catch yourself when you notice this thought or behaviour creeping in.

Open-minded people are open to working on themselves and making the best out of every situation. They also know how to strive and create possibilities from the impossible.

5 Ways to open your mind to endless potential:

Developing a mind that is open to potential and possibilities requires commitment to yourself.

It involves challenging your beliefs, being open to continuously learning and growing as a person, embracing curiosity, and pushing your boundaries just that little bit further all the time.

Without further ado, here are 5 ways to open your mind:

1. Set some mega goals that really push you to expand your awareness. Break your mega goals into bite size pieces to help you build momentum and watch your horizons expand

2. Maximize self-care. Noone opened their mind and reached their potential by sitting on the couch, watching TV, and eating junk. Look after YOU. Move your body, eat whole plant foods, meditate. Prioritize your well-being and you set a firm foundation to work from

3. Get creative. People who reach impossible goals cultivate creativity and curiosity. Be open to learning new skills, experiment with new meals, read books, and try new activities. Actively expose yourself to new people, places and activities. This will stimulate your mind, and enhance your ability to problem-solve and innovate

4. Practice gratitude. Appreciate and acknowledge yourself, all you have achieved so far, the opportunities you have encountered, and the people who helped you along the way

5. Embrace a growth mindset. Believe that you have the ability to achieve anything you put your mind to. Celebrate failures, challenges and setbacks and acknowledge these as part of your journey towards limitless potential. Keep learning and growing.

Final words

Don’t hide yourself away, or make yourself small.

Allow yourself to believe in your endless potential. Surround yourself with the knowledge that the impossible can become possible, for impossible things occur every day.

I’ll finish with this amusing quote by author and British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins ~

“By all means let’s be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out.”

Here’s to your limitless potential!

P.S. Martha Stewart once said that without an open mind we can never achieve great success. My struggles, smallness, and closed off mind have all stood in my way for way too long. I feel blessed, truly blessed, every day since I found the courage to look at myself and allow myself to be open to every wonderful possibility I can imagine.
