Korea’s new “Climate Card” for public transportation to launch in 2024

Seoul City has plans to introduce a new all-in-one “Climate Card” in 2024.
For a fixed price of 65,000 KRW (around 48.70 USD), this monthly pass gives you unlimited rides on Seoul’s buses, subway, and even its bicycle-sharing system.
Dubbed the “Climate Card” in a nod to its eco-conscious ambitions, the scheme aims to ease the cost of living and inspire more people to choose public transport, a move that could significantly reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
Post a pilot operation in the first half of 2024, the “Climate Card” will be up for grabs in the latter half of the year.
And the best part?
It comes in the form of both a physical card and a mobile app, giving you the freedom to travel your way.
From Line 1 to Line 9, Gyeongui–Jungang, and Bundang Lines, the Climate Card covers all subway lines in Seoul, except for the Shinbundang Line.
It’s also valid for intra-city buses and short-route buses within the city limits.
And the card’s reach isn’t limited to the land.
It will extend to Seoul’s commercial water bus service, set to sail by the Han River in the latter half of next year.
The “Climate Card” is expected to cushion the impact of rising living costs and transport fares, saving you as much as 340,000 KRW per person per year if you switch from driving to public transportation for your daily commute and weekend trips.
In the fight against climate change, the “Climate Card” could cut the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by some 32,000 tons each year.
So, by swapping your car keys for the new “Climate Card,” you’re not just saving money — you’re helping the planet too.
Good initiative to be part of, isn’t it?
