An exciting new way to navigate Seoul awaits!

The Seoul Metropolitan Government declared that the “Hangang River Bus”, in a collaborative venture with E-Land Group, will be kicking off operations in September 2024.

According to the agreement, the service will feature a 30-minute river route from the Ara Han River Gabmun dock in Gaehwa-dong, in Seoul’s Gangseo-gu, to Yeouido in Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo-gu.

To put that into perspective, the same journey would usually take around 1.5 hours by bus or subway.

Looking to revolutionize commuting for Gimpo residents, the water-bus service is expected to ease the rush hour gridlock often experienced near the Gimpo Ara Bridge, which is close to the Ara Han River Gabmun dock.

Each river bus will have the capacity to ferry up to 200 passengers and provide services every 15 minutes.

But the journey doesn’t stop in Seoul’s Gangseo-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu.

The city government has also revealed plans to operate routes connecting major residential, business, and tourism areas in other parts of the city, such as Mapo, Yeouido, Jamwon, and Jamsil, starting in September 2024.

The specifics of these routes will be determined by the end of this year.

While the fares for the water bus have yet to be finalized, the city government is looking to align them with the fare levels of other public transportation services.

In addition, negotiations are underway with the city of Incheon and Gyeonggi Province to allow passengers to use their usual public transportation cards and enjoy transfer discounts.

So get ready for a unique and convenient way to explore the city in Q3 2024. :’)
