Seoul will be launching a water bus service on the Han River next year
A fantastic addition to Seoul’s transportation options awaits.
In 2024, the city will be launching a water bus service along the beautiful Han River.
The Seoul city government unveiled its plans on 23 June 2023 and is now inviting interested operators to submit their bids by 14 July 2023.
The goal is to start the commercial water bus service in the second half of 2024, operating between the Gimpo Grand Bridge and the Jamsil Grand Bridge.
To make this happen, the city government will select a preferred bidder by 21 July 2023.
The chosen operator will be responsible for providing at least 6 water buses within the first year of the agreement, with the number increasing to over 10 within two years.
Each water bus must have a minimum capacity of 150 passengers and 20 bicycles, and they should be capable of cruising at a speed of 20 knots or more.
Inspired by Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s visit to London in March, where he experienced the River Bus boat service on the River Thames, the Seoul government aims to create a similar transportation system.
Seoul’s water bus service is not just about transportation; it’s envisioned as a city landmark, a unique tourist attraction, and a complement to existing land-based public transportation.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting addition to Seoul’s lifestyle and transportation scene.
