Know, Like & Trust
From heartache to false teeth, a story template to build rapport with your readers

One of the ways to build rapport with your readers is to share personal stories with them. I believe this makes us more relatable and more likeable to our readers. How much you choose to share is up to you.
The following 7 steps offer some ideas for story topics. I’ll use myself as an example so you can get to know me better. Thanks for reading Neighbor😃
STEP 1: Back Story

Whenever I have an opportunity to speak to school children, I tell them I got paid to draw. For almost 30 years that’s what I did. You can see some of my drawings in this story.
STEP 2: Something Serious

One of the scariest days of my life is when I thought I had put my boys in harm’s way. If I never see another tornado, I will be just fine. For more details, including the picture I took, read this story.
STEP 3: Something Funny

True story. I remember going to my Grandma’s house and saying I have a favor to ask. I need to borrow your teeth for a scavenger hunt. Without hesitation, she took them out of her mouth, wrapped them up, and handed them to me.
STEP 4: Pain Point

This was a very difficult time for my wife and me. Once we got through the heartache of infertility and miscarriages, we were blessed to adopt two boys.
STEP 5: Hobbies

This is the one and only card game I play. Euchre only requires 24 cards. It’s the perfect game for someone who is not playing with a full deck anyway 😃
STEP 6: Community Service

I love to design T-shirts. And especially to raise money for causes. One of my T-shirts raised $89,000 for my community. That story is here. Sometimes, my T-shirts help to raise awareness. This T-shirt was very personal.
I also love to create whiteboard videos. The images for this story were taken from the video below. You can watch the animation set to music.
Daily Doable: I would like to encourage my fellow writer friends on Medium and ILLUMINATION to share stories about themselves.
I know a lot of us have written bio stories. The approach I am suggesting here is short, stand-alone stories. I included an example for each step but they could just as easily been 7 different stories.
Please tag me when you do. I think this will be fun.
