Keeping the Flames Burning

Never giving up on what you have to share with the world

It is now Sunday evening as I write this. This afternoon in our back garden I decided to start a small fire in our fire pit. It was such a nice, dry day with a little bit of sun out and I had enjoyed weeding and gathering little sticks for kindling. I just love to sit by fires, it is a kind of natural meditation.

I had a few papers to burn, a few sticks of kindling and some small dry logs for the fire. I tried to make the fire once, and it went out because I had piled too many things on at once and I think it got smothered. I tried adding more paper but that didn’t help. I got some more kindling and tried again. It went well for a while, but then it still wasn’t going well. The third time I left plenty of room around the kindling and the paper, so lots of air could get in and get the fire going. I was patient, trying not to poke it too much or add too much. I just sat in one of the chairs we have in our fire pit area and enjoyed watching the fire crackle. I love watching the beautiful flames start to catch the bigger lots on fire. I felt so proud that I started my own fire! It’s not something that I do often. It really represented the fact that I feel so ready to do so many amazing things in this world. This time to reflect and to be at home as really ignited something in me to keep going no matter what.

I had some thoughts about how important it is to not give up, to keep going, to try to build that fire again. How many times do we think: I’m not good enough at this. This isn’t working. Who am I to be doing this? Who really needs what I am offering to the world? You begin to doubt yourself, you begin to be the fire that is smothered, trying to do too many things but sabotaging yourself in the process.

If we can remember what happens when we take our time, when we are patient, when we trust the universe and ourselves that things will work out. That things will turn out even better than we thought they would. If we are patient the sparks will catch the kindling on fire, then transfer to the wood. Then, we can watch as the beautiful fire emerges. That is what happens when we do the work. When we carefully lay things out. When we set aside the time. When we sit down to write. When we make that video. When we hit record. When we light that match of creativity. That is when we ignite!

Once that fire is going we are unstoppable. There is a magical force that overtakes us. We are a light that can shine on forever. We must keep it going. We must share our light with the world because there is someone out there that needs your spark in order to create their own fire.

I am feeling on fire this week as I am actually very excited for Monday to begin. I have plans on post its, I have things to do. I have a dream to fulfill and it starts with some work. Your daily work is like the paper that catches the kindling on fire. It may seem small to do something as a daily practice, but it will lead to catching that big log of momentum on fire and pretty soon there’s nothing stopping you!

What is the spark that you are working to ignite?

With lots of love,

Trista
