Keeping a High Vibration While Meeting People Where They’re At
The more you heal, the more energetically sensitive you become.

As I’ve begun dedicating myself and my life to healing and to the path of using earth medicines intentionally for healing, I’ve become much more conscious of who I energetically engage with. My healing work has brought up a lot of my previous insecurities and shed light on so many energetic relationships and interactions that I allowed myself to engage with that, with my newfound knowledge, I realize were not healthy for me.
A key takeaway from this healing work is that how people treat you and the energy they share with you is largely not personal. Sure, someone can appreciate you for you, and sharing time and energy with someone infuses its own energy to the situation and to both people. At the same time, it is very important to be aware, not just intellectually cognizant, but also intuitively and energetically aware of how people energetically behave around you.
And yes, I believe the saying, Energy never lies holds true. Drugs and alcohol obviously may influence a person’s energy; but the fact is, whatever substance use the person is engaging in also gives insights into where they are energetically and spiritually in terms of their own journey.
As a femme-presenting woman, I also keenly am aware of energy that may be sinister, or at least primal, in nature. Women largely tend to learn earlier than men to intuitively understand energy, as we must navigate flirtations and advances made toward us accordingly. We must learn how to deflect pursuits and to divert our eyes and attention to help ward off unwanted interactions. At the same time, women must cultivate their energy and curate their personas to attract the kind of mate(s) and friendships we seek.
Sometimes it can take years of mistakes to understand the importance of trusting your intuition. When you learn to lean into yourself, to trust your intuition, and to actively love yourself, you naturally begin to radiate healthier energy, to become calmer but also more full of natural vitality. You energetically vibrate at a higher frequency and you become more sensitive and begin to be able to more consciously read people’s energy.
So as you heal, and as your energy becomes healed, you find a level of calmness that you may have previously mistaken for boredom, for dullness. It reminds me of a Kurt Cobain quote I read weeks ago: “I just hope I don’t become so blissful I become boring.” Yet, once you’ve reached this state of bliss and energetic healing, you learn to see with a new lens: what you once considered boring, you now consider to be peaceful.
You learn to approach your newfound embodied gratitude and to appreciate the quiet and calmness that it brings. You realize that gratitude literally helps to change your reality, to bring about a more positive lens to your reality. When you reach new levels of healing, you learn not to mistake calmness with being boring.
And so, as you heal and become more conscious of both your own energy and other people’s energy, you naturally grow apart from people who function at different levels energetically. You must learn to negotiate boundaries, to not let other people’s lower vibrations or energetic ways of being bog you down.
As a long-time empath, my healing journey has taught me that while it is important to show others compassion and empathy, you also need to make sure you hold enough space for yourself. Prioritize yourself and your own energetic needs first and foremost. In doing so, I’ve begun meeting my needs better while also inspiring others to work on their own healing journeys.
