AS GLOBETROTTERS WRITING PROMPT
July Monthly Challenge— Action
What were the craziest activities you’ve done abroad?

We first asked you to share stories of ancient ruins and then of modern architecture and achievements — skyscrapers. From the old to the new, I am now asking you to be more active. In the storytelling at least.
When we’re traveling, we’re not just sightseeing. Sure, visiting historic sights and museums can be interesting as well. But the real adventures that remain in our memories usually require us to be more active.
If the body is active, more happy hormones will be released and therefore create those special experiences we don’t forget so soon. The things we do when abroad are often activities we wouldn’t even think of while at home.
I’ve been white water rafting in Zimbabwe. I was ziplining in the rainforest in Thailand and swam with a whale shark in Mozambique. I jumped into a blue hole in Malta and went skinny dipping in Sweden. I hiked along the west coast of Ghana and touched a wild crocodile for no reason. I took cooking classes, did a walking safari, and slept on a floating bungalow.
I’ve always been an active kind of person. I learned stand-up paddling and the rough and cold water of the Atlantic Ocean in Namibia and later on traveled with my inflatable paddleboard around the world. From Thailand to Mozambique and Germany to Poland, I’ve paddled on lakes, rivers and oceans.
I have hiked in just as many places from the rainforest in Malaysia to the desert in Namibia and of course all across the Alps. The mountains have always been calling me. If on foot or on skis or a snowboard, I love doing fun activities in the snow and in the sun.
How about you? I’d love to hear about the craziest activity you’ve done while traveling. An adventure that scared you maybe a little but left you in the aftermath with a big smile. Talk about the joy you felt achieving something you thought you couldn’t do or the sweat that was running down your face while working hard.
I want to hear about your feelings, emotions and thoughts. I want to see your faces while kayaking in Alaska, diving with sharks or walking down a building. Show me your pictures.
Have you been trail running while on holiday? Did you jump on a zipline leading across a gorge or did you sign up for a hiking trip across a desert? Did you do the polar plunge?
Action — it’s all about action.
Share with us the craziest activities you’ve done while traveling. Don’t just name them but take us with you and your compelling narrative. And maybe inspire us to do the same.
Be creative.

A requirement for the monthly challenge submissions is to tag 2 articles that either inspired you to go to this place, have quality content about the same country you’re talking about or maybe it’s just a travel piece you really enjoyed reading.
You can use the search function to review our publication and look for articles about your destination. It’s easy and a great way to show appreciation to other writers out here.

We’re looking forward to your submissions. As always, at the end of the month, the editors of Globetrotters will announce their winners. While we also submit our entries, we do not participate in the competition.
Please remember to follow our guidelines when submitting an article:
- The maximum article length must be 10 minutes.
- Always credit your images. We only accept your own photographs. Please review our image policy if unsure.
- Write your article in the form title-subtitle-title image.
- Please add the tag “monthly challenge”.
- Make sure that travel is still a focus of your story.
- List 2 articles and tag the writers who created them
- The challenge will run from July 1st until July 28th. We reserve the last days of the month to post the results from the challenge.
- For more clarification on submissions, visit the Globetrotters submission guidelines.
We, the team of editors at Globetrotters (JoAnn, Adrienne, Jillian, Michele & Anne) want to thank each of you for contributing to our publication. You’ve sent so many fascinating articles on past challenges and we can’t wait for the next ones.
Thank you.
