Istanbul Has Mountains Of Cheese and Olives

We have been in food heaven!

Not enough cheese, so many olives.

Before arriving back in Istanbul, after spending so much time in Africa, we fantasized about the Mediterranean foods that we would find here.

The cheese was the number one item that we could not wait to eat!

It didn’t take us long to make our way to our favorite market in the city where we found unending supplies of many, MANY different types of olives, and, of course, mountains of fresh cheese.

Olives are red, purple, yellow, green, black, and blue in many shades of each.

In the photo above, all the small round things you see are different types of olives. They come in a rainbow of colors and the flavors vary vastly as well.

We have made it our mission to try every one.

Turkish food certainly has a Mediterranean flare to it, but they also have their own unique specialties. We love the different meats that the Turkish prepare, plus the pides (pee-day), which are basically bread boats with cheese and toppings baked into them, are so delicious.

We can’t forget the Turkish delights as well! Maybe I will have to do a post about those all on their own!

Istanbul is a foodie heaven. If you haven’t been here, you really should check it out.
