Is It True That Money Motivates Us?
With brutal honesty — I Doubt

We were taught to go to school and get that high paying job so that money will not become a problem. I am willing to muster a guess that most parents preach the same thing because they were preached the same thing. So, it begets the question.
Does Money Motivate?
I have a couple of angles to this question. I shall start with the intention to acquire more money.
We want to acquire more money to buy more things. We want the money because it allows us to buy what we want and live a life we adore.
Saving for our retirement is the same thing. We are squirrelling our financial energy away today to have something to rely on down the road.
If the sheets of paper that have beautiful colors, monograms, and human figurines printed on it don’t allow us to buy what we want — Would we be obsessed?
Next, we probably see money as a way of keeping score. Anything quantifiable is a perfect candidate for comparison benchmarks. Money is convenient for this purpose.
We compare incomes, bonuses, incentives, real estate values, stock market portfolio, the branded bags we carry, the first-class air tickets we purchase, the restaurants we patronize, and even the facial treatment packages we subscribe to.
Yes, convert everything into monetary terms as watch how mortal comparisons take on a life of its own. There is only so much we can talk about soccer scores. With money, the permutations are endless.
One point to note. The purpose of the comparison isn’t in the numbers itself. It is about determining the winners. The person with the longest string of numbers behind the dollar sign wins.
The ability to win motivates us.
The piles of paper per se?
Nope.
Let’s focus on building our “Great Days Ahead”.
