Dr. Mehmet Yildiz has done it again. He’s offering writers of his publication, ILLUMINATION, the opportunity to promote publications we have created. And this is the heart of why I love ILLUMINATION. It’s about writers supporting each other. Writing can be a lonely business, and it helps to find your tribe. I’ve found mine at ILLUMINATION.

What’s the purpose of Exploring Wellness?

Exploring Wellness is a publication dedicated to navigating the path to finding your wellbeing. Wellness is a broad topic, which is why there are no limitations to the type of story you may find here. Nutrition, mindfulness, mental health, and fitness are intertwined with wellbeing, and its just a sample of some of the topics we may cover.

Exploring Wellness is broken into the following six categories:

  1. Wellness. Health and wellbeing encompass many things. This category catches everything that doesn’t fit in the other topics.
  2. Fitness. Being active is an integral part of health. Sedentary lifestyles lead to poor health conditions. People that find joy in their activities will be more likely to stay active throughout their lives.
  3. Food. What you eat affects everything from how you feel, to disease prevention, to your energy levels.
  4. Mental Health. Our physical wellbeing is not in a vacuum but connected to our emotional, psychological, and mental states.
  5. Lifestyle. Lifestyle is another broad category to encompass all the aspects of wellness that the other topics may miss. While not an exhaustive list, lifestyle can cover recreation, gardening, hobbies, motivation, productivity, and relationships.
  6. Running. I have been a runner for many years. Someday I may create a publication dedicated solely to running, but for now, I have this page.

Who is the target audience?

Everyone! Everyone should have the ability to make positive choices to improve their lives. Being well is not an exclusive club that only wealthy people with access to spa treatments and pricy health clubs can join. Anyone should have the opportunity to find their path to a better life.

Who can write for Exploring Wellness?

First, I’ll tell you about myself. I am not a medical professional. I have a background in Psychology with a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I use it to help me understand mental health, mindfulness, and motivations for wellbeing.

I have been a runner since I was a teenager but didn’t discover my love for long-distance running until my early 30s. I also enjoy swimming, yoga, and mediation. I try to eat a balanced diet and make healthy choices. I cook often and love to experiment with recipes and create my own.

I try my best but I’m not perfect at being healthy. I love chocolate and red wine far too much. Wellbeing is a journey and a lifestyle. It’s about consistently making positive choices, but not beating yourself up when you don’t. There is no room for judgment at Exploring Wellness.

Your unique qualifications to write health and wellness articles will look different than mine. You don’t need to be a medical professional, although I’d love to add that perspective to the publication. But ultimately, what you need is a passion for healthy habits as a way of life.

5 sample stories

I decided to narrow it down to these five for a sample of the publication. But I’m on the lookout for new ideas that fit within the scope of the publication. If you’d like to write for Exploring Wellness, don’t think you need to limit yourself to these sample types.

  1. How Your Personality Affects the Way You Should Exercise

The key to being active is finding something you love to do. Searching your personality type can help you find an exercise you want to do.

2. Why I Love Running in the Rain

You don’t have to have perfect weather to head outside. There’s nothing like a rainy day run.

3. Healing from Within

In this article, Sarah M. Chen wrote about her struggle with migraines and how she has found natural ways to alleviate them. After the medication she was taking began to lose its effectiveness, she explored alternative treatments, and found success.

4. Quarantine Routine

Julia Stier covers the benefits of keeping to a routine during quarantine. Socially isolating and working from home has turned the structure of our lives upside down. A morning routine can help you improve productivity and energy levels.

5. Being Hangry is Real and Scary

I can relate more than I like to admit to understanding the feeling of being “hangry.” In this article, David Mokotoff describes his struggle with this combination of hunger and anger while providing tips on what you can do to ward it off.
