Introducing Myself

Image- My own

I’m probably a bit late in introducing myself — but here it goes: as short as possible and quick to read!

I’m 26, married for a year, was born in Pune, India, and am still living here, though my medical school wasn’t in my hometown. My mother tongue is Marathi, but my schooling was done in an English school. I’m a doctor, having finished medical school (which is of total 6 years including internship), 2 years ago; now going to pursue further specialization. I’ve cleared my entrance exams in Jan 2020 after preparing for 2 years, and I’m just waiting for the admission process to resume once the lockdown becomes less strict.

Apart from the arduous medical school(which was actually fun, I miss it a lot) and a few bullying incidents in school, I’ve had a pretty normal life. My husband is an Anesthetist and we met in my internship when I was his intern. Though initially convincing my parents for marrying him was a huge task — leading to 3 weddings in different styles (thanks to the diversity of cultures here, our’s being an inter-caste marriage), now everything is fine. My mum is a Ph.D. Biotechnologist and dad an engineer working in an automobile company. I’m their only child which is the reason why probably they were so possessive about me!

I’ve just recently discovered this passion for writing, though I was an avid reader since childhood. After being introduced to Medium in April 2020, when I was a newbie, I used to keep scrolling and exploring a lot. (I still do and I’m still new) The name of this publication caught my eye — ILLUMINATION. I love such names which have an underlying deeper meaning. The taglines — synergy, serendipity — they are the foundations of my belief system. They lured me into checking out everything here. And then I messaged to be added as a writer. To be honest, I didn’t have any hopes; a newbie from what I’d heard via friends would take at least 2 months to be accepted by any publication. But lo behold, to my pleasant surprise, I got accepted. I’m really thankful to Dr. Mehmet Yildiz for giving me this opportunity to showcase my work at such an early stage. Since the day I got accepted, I’ve been a regular contributor, learning from all the wonderful and pro writers over here.

Since then, there’s nothing stopping me — writing every day keeps my soul extremely contented and happy. The satisfaction of hitting the submit button is like something else! I was always descriptive as a kid like I used to and still do — love going into the detailing of anything and everything. My friends in med school used to tease me a lot cause I used to send big, big descriptive texts. So writing is like — pouring out myself each day, little by little.

Also I’ve realized the growth in me — one month ago when I started vs now. I’m able to think more clearly and quickly as to how to exactly say what I’m feeling on a piece of paper. It’s so much more powerful, and effective than normal spoken words. And Poetry is something that really surprised me. I was never a poetry person. But now I just love reading as well as expressing myself or my thoughts through it.

Since my livelihood doesn’t depend on writing, it comes out freely, without any anxiety or inhibitions — at least that’s what I feel. Though, initially I had zero confidence in putting it out there — I always wanted a validation at least from my mom to post something. It’s getting built up slowly — the more I write.

So that’s me! I’m glad that I’m contributing to this platform full of motivation, wisdom, drive, synergy, and harmony. Happy writing and learning everyone :)
