Alex Jones has been ordered to pay $965 million in damages to the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims for falsely claiming the tragedy was a hoax.
Abstract
A Connecticut jury has ordered conspiracy theorist and Infowars host Alex Jones to pay $965 million to families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims. Jones had repeatedly claimed the massacre was staged, causing significant distress and harm to the families involved. The verdict, which marks the largest award to date in the legal battle against Jones, comes after years of his relentless dissemination of falsehoods about the 2012 shooting, where 20 children and six educators were killed. Despite the verdict, Jones remains defiant, continuing to mock the parents and showing no remorse for his actions, even as he faces financial repercussions for his lies.
Opinions
The author expresses that no parent should have to endure the loss of a child, especially under such horrific circumstances, and that the additional trauma inflicted by Alex Jones's hoax claims is unconscionable.
Alex Jones is portrayed as a profiteer, exploiting the grief of the Sandy Hook families for financial gain by selling products to his audience under the guise of his false narratives.
The author suggests that Jones's actions are indicative of a broader issue with misinformation and fake news in American society, which is described as "upside down."
The article highlights the absurdity and insensitivity of Jones's claims by listing several of his statements, which include accusations that the parents were actors and the shooting was a government-staged event.
The verdict is seen as a form of justice for the families and a potential deterrent against future purveyors of fake news, though the author acknowledges that individuals like Jones may not be swayed by financial penalties.
The author points out the irony in Jones's current situation, as he is now soliciting donations while claiming he does not have the money to pay the damages awarded to the Sandy Hook families.
The article draws a parallel between Jones's situation and other instances of public figures making controversial statements, such as Kanye West's recent antisemitic tweets, indicating a pattern of behavior that is only addressed after significant damage has been done.
There is a clear stance that the fight against misinformation is crucial and that the large settlement against Jones should serve as a warning to others who spread false information.

Did the Sandy Hook victim families ask for this verdict?
First, no parent should ever live the day they have to bury their child. There is even no word to use for parents who lost their child.
And what more when you lose your child in a mass shooting?
But this is America today. Nothing surprises me anymore, learn to expect the worst. It is like living in an upside down world, where fake news and misinformation reign supreme. And Alex Jones is at the top of the list of fake news purveyors.
As soon as the Sandy Hook school shooting happened, Alex Jones didn’t waste a minute and called it a hoax.
And because gullible people believe every word that comes out of his mouth while he goes selling his viewers and listeners vitamins and supplements, he profited from the grief these parents went through in their lives.
He mocked the surviving parents and called them actors, and that the mass shooting was nothing but a staged event by the government to make a case for tougher gun laws.
While he was enjoying his millions, these parents didn't have the time to process their grief but instead had to think of their safety.
Many of them were harassed and threatened with harm and rape.
A parent during the trial said strangers would pee on their child’s grave.

For a decade, the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has broadcast a steady stream of lies about the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Dozens of those lies were presented as evidence of Mr. Jones’s relentless attacks on the families of the victims during the damages trial in Connecticut.
Here are some of the statements Mr. Jones has made about the families and the shooting:
“I know grieving parents do strange things, but it looks like he’s saying, ‘OK, do I read off the card?’ He’s laughing, and then he goes over and starts, um, breaking down and crying.”
“This needs to be investigated. They’re clearly using this to go after our guns.”
“We’ve clearly got people where it’s actors playing different parts of different people.”
“Undoubtedly, there’s a cover-up. There’s actors. They’re manipulating. They’ve been caught lying, and they were preplanning before it and rolled out with it.”
“It just is the fakest thing since the $3 bill.”
“They had the kids going in circles in and out of the building as a photo-op. Blue screen, green screens, they got caught using.”
“They even ended up using photos of kids killed in mass shootings here in a fake mass shooting in Turkey — so yeah, or Pakistan. The sky is now the limit.”
“It was a drill, a giant piece of theater. Did they really kill some kids? I don’t know.”
“Weird videos of reported parents of kids laughing and then all of a sudden they do the hyperventilating to cry to go on TV.”
“The official story of Sandy Hook has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.”
“One of the reported fathers of the victims … doing classic acting training.”
As the verdict was read, this is Alex Jones today.

He is still mocking the parents, unrepentant, and acting like the loudmouth that he is while trying to inflame the situation.
“They want to scare everybody away from freedom, and scare us away from questioning Uvalde and what really happened there, or Parkland or any other event. And guess what? We’re not scared, and we’re not going away, and we’re not going to stop,” Jones said.
“For hundreds of thousands of dollars, I can keep them in court for years, I can appeal this stuff, we can stand up against this travesty, against the billions of dollars they want. It’s a joke.”
“This corrupt, dying political system wants to try to make me the devil. I’m not the devil, and God is my judge, not you, you globalist scumbags,” he continued.
“This is how desperate the establishment is. I am so honored to have this happening. So we’re waiting while the judge sent the jury back out because they didn’t put decimals on how many millions I’m suppose to give, and that’s why it’s such a joke. I don’t have 2 million dollars in cash.”
That smile became Alex Jones’s bread and butter as he used that to cast doubt on what happened on December 14, 2012, 11 days before Christmas at theSandy Hook Elementary School.

There is no war against free speech. There is a war against fake news and misinformation. A billion-dollar verdict against Alex Jones should serve as a warning to people like him, but we all know none of these matters to people like him and that includes Donald Trump.
It took a while before social media platforms and big companies banned Alex Jones because as long as someone is bringing in the views and money a lot of these companies don’t care until it is too late.
Today, while Alex Jones tries to appear ‘cool’ about the verdict, on his website he is ‘soliciting’ donations. As someone on Twitter said, he better start selling a gazillion of those vitamins and supplements.
Update: He is asking for donations but he said that NONE of it would go to the Sandy Hook families. Well, that’s Alex Jones!
