Summary

KS Hernandez reflects on the concept of forgiveness and the significance of daily life observations during Wlogmas, while also sharing personal anecdotes about squirrels and the symbolism of a berry-picked tree.

Abstract

In the spirit of Wlogmas, KS Hernandez muses on life's random observations, such as the behavior of squirrels and the selection of a particular tree by birds, drawing parallels to human experiences and the process of forgiveness. Hernandez challenges the immediate forgiveness taught in their upbringing, prompted by TaLynn Kel's essays on anti-forgiveness. The author encourages introspection and critical thought about forgiveness, considering its impact on both the forgiver and the forgiven. The article concludes with an invitation to support the author's work and join Medium, as well as recommendations for further reading on the topic of forgiveness.

Opinions

  • The author finds squirrels' cheeky and mischievous behavior endearing, likening them to gangsters of the backyard.
  • A particular tree's popularity with birds prompts the author to ponder its appeal, much like one might wonder about the best BBQ joint in town.
  • Street numbers on mailboxes evoke memories for the author, feeling as if the universe is presenting a personal retrospective akin to an episode of "This Is Your Life."
  • The author is reevaluating the concept of forgiveness, questioning its automatic nature as instilled by their religious upbringing.
  • After engaging with TaLynn Kel's work on anti-forgiveness, the author is led to deep self-examination and a reconsideration of what forgiveness means personally and interpersonally.
  • The author suggests that the universe might be speaking through seemingly random observations, implying that these moments are not as coincidental as they seem.

Random Observations and forgiveness

What is Wlogmas, you ask? A daily writing idea of Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) and she explains it best! It’s quick, give it a read and join if you are so inclined. 😌☕ ✍🏾

Look at this little woodland creature. They are adorable! So darned cute! I think I love them. 😌

Squirrels are cheeky little beings! Have you noticed? I just love their moxy, and mischief. They’re the gangsters of your backyard! Set trippin wherever they go. Holding eye contact, as they devour their food. 👀

I’ll never forget that time one made a three-pointer, with an acorn, into my mom’s coffee cup. She said they’d made a few attempts before that then swoosh!!! Ruined cuppa! She was pissed. But whew did I roar! The trees went crazy as they celebrated.

Ah, you gotta love um. ☕

I saw one a few days ago, on my walk. I mean, legging it for all they were worth! I thought, a squirrel going full speed looks like a stone being skipping across water.

Pay attention next time.

I was completely charmed by the connection, and the scene. I was curious why they were in such a hurry. 🐿Guess I’ll never know…

Similarly, there’s a tree nearby, picked clean save a prematurely frozen berry or two, still clinging to a bare, blackened limb. I’d noticed that tree was lousy with birds flying in and out, taking stores away with them. What made that tree so good? When just a few feet away, there was a similar tree, still nearly full of berries.

That other tree must be like the best BBQ joint in town. Guess I’ll never know that either…

Have you ever felt like, the universe was speaking to you, screaming at you? My attention was drawn to the street numbers on mailboxes, I felt like I was being presented in an episode of This Is Your Life.

I’ve just aged myself, but it’s the best analogy I can give, as each number/year bought up memories of that time, defining moments that have deeply informed me.

Funny how I didn’t see 2019, the year my mother passed away…

Those moments ended with a date in the future, I feel like I received a major download today. Much introspection needed. Perhaps not so random?

Forgiveness~~~ I have to say that I haven’t given the concept much critical thought. See, I was raised in the church, and it was ingrained in me to forgive people immediately. I’m reevaluating that stance by really considering what forgiveness is and how it affects me, personally. What does it mean to the people we forgive? What does this period of self-examination mean for me?

After listening to TaLynn Kel series of live readings on Anti-forgiveness, I’ve had so much to think about, weight, measure, about myself as well as those who have hurt me. It’s a four-part series of essays, well worth the read. Start with the first one:

That’s it for now.
