In Memory of a Loving Number at Home
Poem 2 of the Eminent Number Trilogy

One, my mother, you died from giving birth to me and my siblings, but your spirit infused us, your breast comforted us and your beating heart knew us.
In a sacrifice foreknown, you engulfed Zero, who leavened your womb and divided your egg into everything that grows.
Now at the kitchen table I watch birds feeding on the deck and squirrels dancing in the yard, all connected to me through you and like me yearning for your embrace.
